Today’s been a long time coming. Because today, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

Former U.N. Ambassador Samantha Power welcomed this news:

It is major, Samantha. Funny, though. You didn’t always seem to think it was so major.

Indeed.

Donald Trump could — and should — absolutely stand up to Turkey and Erdogan and very publicly recognize the Armenian Genocide for what it was. That said, the victims got a hell of a lot more recognition during the Trump administration than they ever got under Barack Obama’s.

Spare all of us.
