E. Jean Carroll’s credibility was already on shaky ground when she told a visibly stunned Anderson Cooper last night that “most people think of rape as being sexy.” Donald Trump’s cringetastic and ill-advised “She’s not my type” remark notwithstanding, Carroll has done herself absolutely zero favors since coming out of the woodwork with her accusation of sexual assault. But she’s given others plenty of reasons to doubt her story and effectively turned herself into a punchline.

Case in point:

Ouch.

If Carroll were serious about making such a serious accusation against Donald Trump, she could’ve handled this in a serious way. Instead, she’s turned it into some kind of twisted joke. And for that, she’s being treated like one herself.

And CNN’s not looking too good, either.

One can actually make a pretty compelling argument that Carroll is being exploited. But there’s really no defending CNN here. They deserve every bit of criticism and mockery they get.
