Earlier today, Stephen Colbert opted not to go the Matt Yglesias route with regard to an AntiFa mob trying to terrorize Tucker Carlson and his family:
Fighting Tucker Carlson’s ideas is an American right. Targeting his home and terrorizing his family is an act of monstrous cowardice. Obviously don’t do this, but also, take no pleasure in it happening. Feeding monsters just makes more monsters.
— Stephen Colbert (@StephenAtHome) November 8, 2018
Colbert’s earning plenty of bipartisan kudos for that tweet:
Not exactly a fan, but respect Colbert a lot for this pitch perfect response. https://t.co/OyndtmtQhK

Well said Stephen. I wish all people felt this way. It's absolutely disgusting that people are trying to justify this and I can't stand Tucker.

You are a true gentleman
— David Brody (@DavidBrody) November 8, 2018
Thank you for this.
— Lois Catlin (@CatlinLois) November 8, 2018
Bingo. Couldn’t agree more.
— John Leeds (@JohnLeeds15) November 8, 2018
I agree. I can’t stand him but he deserves to live in peace. I think on both sides the fringe is out of control. I think most people just want to try to get along even if we disagree. I’m so tired of all the fighting.

Correct!??
— Pamela Dubsky #BoycottNRA (@pameladubsky49) November 8, 2018
I basically never agree with you, but that's life.
I am man enough to admit that I agree with you on this point 100%
Americans should not be subjected to this type of behavior for any reason.#props Stephen— PompanoPete (@Pompanopete) November 8, 2018
I may not agree with Tucker Carlson's stand on many issues but I am appalled that anyone would attack his home or family. We sink to the lowest level when we encourage hate and violence.
— David Schwarzkopf (@DavidSchwarzko3) November 8, 2018
A 'thank you', Stephen Colbert .. ✌? (from a Republican)
— Rhea ✨ (@Rhea11) November 8, 2018
I agree 100%. Point of order: why do people always feel the need to call things "cowardly" or "brave"? Everything does not have to be one or the other. Some things just are what they are. Targeting someone's home is not cowardly or brave–it's a crime. No need for qualifiers.
— Susie Hopper (@september_gurl) November 8, 2018
Although we disagree on just about everything, this is something we can totally agree on. Homes and families are 100% off limits, this is disgusting behavior and I appreciate you coming out against it.

But he’s also catching lots of heat, largely — though not exclusively — from the Left:
have you considered shutting up

it's extremely good actually

Why is it that white people automatically believe what monsters like Tucker Carson claim? I'm willing to bet people hounded him, but no evidence besides his lying lips can confirm that they actually threatened him.
— JeffB (@JeffB55171685) November 8, 2018
tucker carlson ran a campaign to smear trayvon martin after he was stalked and murdered and said he had invited trouble by wearing a hoodie in the rain but oh my goodness i hope tucker doesn't feel unsafe in his own neighborhood
— Hieronymus Burps ? (@hieronymus_burp) November 8, 2018
Feck that, dude comes nightly into millions of living rooms inciting anger and division, he deserves every bit of harassment he gets.
— Col. Nathan R. Jessep (@ajaxonford) November 8, 2018
Chicken and egg my friend. Tucker the monster has been feeding hate to his viewers for years now. This group just regurgitated some of his hate and spit it up on his front lawn.
— michael baskin (@mbaskin99) November 8, 2018
As long as his kids aren't harmed how is this bad? He has an active, profitable, and crucial role in the mainstreaming of far right white supremacist rhetoric and action his wife is not innocent either. He deserves the guillotine, some people chanting outside his home is light.
— Calmguy Normalman (@ohmyskeet) November 8, 2018
This guy literally did a Hitler salute saying Trump was literally a Nazi (killing jews in mass) and his voters were Nazis. Colbert and all of Hollywood have said anyone who's lot a liberal is a white supremacist. They praised Antifa as the same as WW2 vets.
What did he expect? https://t.co/qxIX9Jdmy2
— EducatédHillbilly™ (@RobProvince) November 8, 2018
Your statement encourages violence. Your whole attitude is one of hatred towards people like Tucker Carlson. "Fighting his ideas"? It's too bad you have such a huge platform to spew your hatred. Monsters indeed. https://t.co/H0D4iBTZnT
