British pop music singer and songwriter Lily Allen opened up a political forum of sorts on Twitter this morning when she questioned the moral difference between tax avoiders and benefit cheats. Needless to say, she got quite the response from her followers.
Her comment that tax avoiders are “several hundred times worse” than benefit cheats really opened the floodgates and brought on an unusual outpouring of support for … the tax avoiders.
@lilyrosecooper benefit cheats are worse because we work for our money whilst they take it all from us so they can watch TV + have no job

@KetteringChris tax money doesn't just go towards the benefit system. Do you use roads? Health service ?

Wow some of the arguments re #taxavoidance are actually really upsetting to read.I can't believe how people justify that shit to themselves

And quite a majority. I'm quite ashamed to be honest.

Luckily, the government over in London can take solace in knowing that Lily is on its side when it comes to tax fraud, and she is a much better spokesperson on the topic than someone like actor Wesley Snipes.
