News broke on Twitter tonight that Jon Stewart will be leaving Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. Speculation that he might be in line to replace “Lyin’ Brian” Williams is rampant but there is so far no indication that any such deal is in the works.

I assume Jon Stewart, approached by NBC about Meet the Press, isn't stepping down so he can take the NBC anchor job?
— HowardKurtz (@HowardKurtz) February 11, 2015
@HowardKurtz Perhaps not, but Brian Williams might be a good candidate to replace Jon Stewart on the Daily Show!
— Chuck Snyder (@crsnydertx) February 11, 2015
So, wait. Jon Stewart is replacing Brian Williams?
Don't laugh. It's no crazier than giving him Meet The Press and NBC wanted that.

I’ll miss that hilarious joke where The Daily Show plays a clip of a Republican, then Jon Stewart looks at the camera & opens his eyes wide.
— jon gabriel (@exjon) February 10, 2015
@exjon Then closes his mouth in an odd expression and taps his pencil….
— Mickey White (@BiasedGirl) February 10, 2015
@exjon and cusses. Don't forget about when he cusses.
— scobes (@scobes15) February 10, 2015
@exjon I'll miss the one where he gapes at the camera, then cradles his chin in his hands.

— Brandon Morse (@TheBrandonMorse) February 10, 2015
That probably wouldn’t work. The comedy is intentional on The Daily Show … a whole different field than what Oliver Willis is used to.

For people under 30, Jon Stewart leaving the Daily Show is the equivalent of the Beatles breaking up.

Hope Stewart replaces Williams and we eventually end up with an all-comedian anchor roster at 6:30 for network news
