Kirby Delauter — the county councilman who must not be named — from Frederick, Md., made a huge splash on social media. Maybe “splat” would be a more accurate word. Delauter became a national laughingstock yesterday after threatening legal action against a Frederick News Post reporter for mentioning his name in an article without his permission. It started with a blog post, but when the story went viral on Twitter, Delauter even earned his own hashtag.
This is probably the greatest headline (and editorial) of all time http://t.co/7hz03RnoYP

Today after the Frederick News Post responded with an editorial “Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter, Kirby Delauter” he became a trending topic and the story was even reported by NPR and the BBC.
The Frederick News-Post's perfect #KirbyDelauter response. Be sure and note the first letter of each graf: http://t.co/lXEjIwuoe5

Henceforth, failing spectacularly on social media should be called “Delautering.”

At present #KirbyDelauter is the #1 non-promoted subject on U.S. Twitter. Hats off to @walterolson, whose pebble started the avalanche.

Delauter has even earned his own Twitter parody account.
I have come to the Twitter to tell you all you had best not be mentioning me, or else you'll be paying for a lawyer! #KirbyDelauter

Any word from the real Kirby Delauter though?
At this afternoon's #FredCo council meeting. In opening comments, Delauter makes no mention of the national news coverage he's gotten today.
