This afternoon, Rep. Paul Tonko, D-New York, asked his 8,396 Twitter followers for retweets to show their opposition to a new herbicide manufactured by Dow AgroSciences. The tweet above has received just three retweets at the time of this writing. One of those is from an account that automatically retweets every tweet posted by a congressional Democrat.
Rep. Tonko does not give up easily, however:
USDA says approving #24D crops could unleash 176 million lbs of #24D on US farmland by 2020. RT if u think we should say NO to 2,4-D #GMO

That one has two retweets, including one from the bot.
RT if you say NO to #pesticide promoting #GMO crops!
— Paul Tonko ⚫️ (@RepPaulTonko) August 2, 2014
Four retweets.
I oppose the approval of #24D #GMO crops which will cause toxic pesticide use to rise. RT if you agree!

This one got the best response of all: A whopping six retweets at the time of this writing. Out of more than 8,000 followers.
By comparison, Zayn Malik’s inane call to “free Palestine” has almost 288,000 retweets.
Where have all of Twitter’s environmentalists gone?
