AP tweet falsely accuses Silvio Berlusconi of defending Hitler

The Associated Press tweeted to its 1.6 million followers that Silvio Berlusconi, former Prime Minister of Italy, defended both Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

The article linked in the AP’s tweet makes clear, however, that Berlusconi did not defend Hitler. He defended Mussolini for allying himself with Hitler. That’s still an awful thing to say, but it’s a far cry from defending Hitler himself. How about a correction, AP?
