(2) The Romney campaign has a messaging problem because it has a policy problem.

(3) The policy problem is that the Romney campaign offers nothing but bad news to hardpressed Americans and the broader middle class.

(4) How do you message: I'm doing away w Medicaid over the next 10 yrs, Medicare after that, to finance a cut in the top rate of tax to 28%?

(10) But voters do care about the q: what will this presidency do for me? And "dick you over" is not a winning answer

In other words, Romney should have promised to leave entitlement programs alone, i.e., a continuation of the policies that have worked so great for middle-class Americans during the last 3 1/2 years:
@davidfrum Right, because a much better message wd be: Don't touch Medicare/caid or the anti-growth tax-code because status quo is great.
— Bret Swanson (@JBSay) September 17, 2012
In any case, Romney is not proposing to end Medicare. In truth, he and his running mate Paul Ryan are trying to save the program.
The notion that Romney is trying to eliminate Medicaid is also absurd, as is Frum’s allegation that Romney has become a far-right “culture warrior.”
But, hey, Frum is just trying to help Romney. Or is he?

Update: If Romney’s campaign is so awful, why does the latest Rasmussen poll show Romney ahead of Obama by 2 points?
