“Just a blogger” Gabriel Malor reports that thanks to Obama’s health care reform, Catholic parishes are taking on expensive administrative and financial burdens — burdens you’re not hearing about from the mainstream media.
Transparency is too much trouble. MT @jamiedupree: WH opposes the GOP bill, labeling it "administratively burdensome" http://t.co/kj7gxXohtR

Speaking of "administratively burdensome," I was talking to a Catholic church business director this week about #HCR implementation.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
She said the churches in her diocese are having to switch payroll systems because of #HCR. It's expensive and "administratively burdensome."
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
She explained that the difference bw the diocesan health plan premiums and what #HCR says plans should cost is $500.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
The diocese asking (read: ordering) the parishes to make up that $500 difference. That applies for each full-time employee.

So #HCR's not just "administratively burdensome." It's ruinously expensive for many small parishes.

I told her I was surprised that I hadn't seen such a compelling story in the papers.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
She told me the parishes were used to paying employees themselves even though, technically, they're all diocesan employees.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
Now that #HCR law is effective, the diocese must track the number of employees (obviously more than 50) and their hours.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 10, 2014
So that's why the entire diocese is having to switch payroll and accounting systems. #HCR is administratively burdensome.

She described a meeting of all the parish business directors and some of the priests gathering to learn the new system. Almost a comedy.

Will any “real journalist” run with this story? Anyone? Anyone?
This example of administrative and financial #HCR burdens even for churches, which are exempt from a lot of things, needs more press.
