At his joint presser with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas this week, President Obama didn’t just invoke the American civil rights movement. He also compared the relationship between Israel and Palestine to U.S.-Canada relations.
Obama described his vision: “There will be a sovereign Palestinian state, a sovereign Jewish state of Israel and those two states can, I think, will be able to deal with each other the same way all states do.”
And then he invoked this example: “I mean, you know, the United States and Canada has arguments once in a while, but they’re not the nature of arguments that can’t be solved diplomatically.”
The Right Scoop wrote, “It just seems like yesterday that Canada was lobbing missiles into Wisconsin.” Never again!
Sarah Palin reacted to Obama’s off-teleprompter moment on Facebook, asking, “What is America’s leadership thinking?”
Regarding this comparison, is he thinking it’s America or Canada that would be lobbing mortars across the other’s border to strike fear and kill innocents? And is he thinking that America is compared to Israel or Palestine? Or is it Canada that’s more like Israel or Palestine? Really, friends, if anyone else, ANYWHERE, had made such a claim, that person would be skewered and pilloried forever. Again, what is America’s leadership thinking?
Thinking’s for suckers.
