South Bend (Indiana) Mayor Pete Buttigieg officially announced his candidacy for president on Sunday.
Among the many things he is basing his campaign on, one is declaring that children have nothing to fear in the United States.

He is, of course, attempting to take a jab at President Trump’s immigration policy, insinuating that somehow children fleeing violence have to “fear” the U.S.
The U.S. should have "nothing to fear from children fleeing violence," Buttigieg says in nod to Trump's family separation policy, and those children should have nothing to fear from the U.S.

But what about children who don’t have the opportunity to “flee” and even those who are just born?
Democrat Pete Buttigieg supports full-term abortion
SCARBOROUGH: “Do you support the late-term abortion legislation that was passed in the NY state legislature, as well as in VA?”
BUTTIGIEG: “I don’t think we need more restrictions right now”

He is right in saying that children ought to have nothing to fear in the U.S.
Too bad he and his party don’t agree.
