There have been real resistance efforts of powerful dictatorships in history. Eli Lake wants the anti-Trump Left to keep things in perspective.
If there isn’t a significant chance you will be captured and disappeared, you shouldn’t get to call yourself a “resistance.”
— Eli Lake (@EliLake) May 7, 2017
The problem is that those in the “resistance” movement won’s stop screaming “TRUMP BAD!” long enough to see how much of a spectacle they have become.
@EliLake They are not in listening mode. Which is good. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Of course, those championing the movement didn’t think much of Lake’s reality check.
Who died and made this nut the arbiter of resistance? https://t.co/k724GNyrbK

How about you focus on not getting caught doing PR work for Nunes?
Patriotism is clearly not in your dictionary. https://t.co/cJUVkuWaPQ

As you can see, many egregiously misunderstand the entire point Lake is making. It’s not that there shouldn’t be disagreement or even vocal criticism of the Trump administration, but the term “resistance” carries connotations that do not apply here. To use it to define your anti-Trumpism does a disservice to your cause and a disservice to many who have had to actually “resist” murderous regimes.
