The Nation’s Aura Bogado apologized after sending this tweet:
Even more anti-climatic moment of #solidarityisforwhitewomen: when a black man with a white girlfriend attacks you when you use the hashtag.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 17, 2013
I apologize to everyone who read this tweet https://t.co/9ZN9dgdvJu. I was wrong to send it. However… (cont.)

@aurabogado I can't believe you're bringing up his girlfriend. Wow. I thought you said you were done.

@aurabogado Are you nuts? Uh, @thenation …

Though she apologized to Jamelle Bouie of the Daily Beast, she spent quite a few tweets explaining why she sent the tweet.
The first tweet I ever responded to Bouie with was, "Hi Jamelle," because I was being respectful to a writer I admired.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
And in that first tweet, I made it clear that I was not defending cat-calling.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
Nevertheless, I was instantly attacked with 2-3 tweets for every 1 that I sent; very aggressive, at best.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
Way before I sent out that tweet, a Storify was created and sent out to 18K followers in order to publicly shame me–making it personal.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
I was accused of not "acting in good faith" to 18K followers, many of whom came after me, calling me names for hours (and are still at it).

My intelligence was questioned by tweeting to others that I had a "weird critique," and other disparaging remarks.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
It was assumed that I don't know basic econ or "market forces" (not like my old job was helping to create http://t.co/sAra3e89tY).
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
It should be understood that, among other things, I was specifically called "hilariously dishonest;" called a liar for hours.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
My credibility as a journalist was repeatedly questioned way before I sent the tweet I just apologized for.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
As a WOC, a man calling me a lair, questioning my intelligence, encouraging 18K people to come at me are very triggering.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
Not to mention going after my employer and encouraging others to do so; I assume they would be thrilled if a WOC writer lost her contract.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
I won't forget that the person attacking me repeatedly sent out tweets that read "I hate all women of color." Again, very triggering.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
And I just found out just today that I was also accused of "misreading" Orange is the New Black.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
Questioning the ability of indigenous people to read is deeply offensive, as my people have long been called a people without writing.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
I apologize to every individual I hurt. And I also am sorry that my community let me hurt for hours without reaching out. And still hasn't.
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
Thank you to those who did. To @JamilSmith esp, who took time out of busy day to explain sit down with me and explain why I should apologize
— Aura Bogado (@aurabogado) August 18, 2013
I'll end by expressing that I cannot be at all surprised at what's transpired. I already knew that solidarity never really was for me.
