Remember this story from yesterday on the successful thwarting of an attack on the DNC’s computers?
A Democratic official confirms to me that the DNC alerted law enforcement after detecting a phishing attempt to gain access to the voter file. The attack was first noticed Tuesday and was successfully thwarted.

Chaser…
NEVER MIND! It was an “unauthorized test” on the DNC by a subcontractor:
NEW: The DNC walks back that it detected a "sophisticated" hacking attempt, announcing that it was simply a subcontractor's unauthorized security test. https://t.co/XhnvXx8Gbx

So much for this conspiracy theory linking the “hack” to Manafort and Cohen:

They Fake News’d themselves right in the face:
NEW: In late night statement, Democratic National Committee (DNC) says an apparent attempt it detected to hack its voter database was, in fact, an unauthorized “simulated phishing test,” and not an actual attempt to hack into its systems by an adversary.

Full statement:
So here’s a pretty significant update to ystdy’s DNC hacking story: False alarm.
The DNC, 12 hours after first stmt, now says they believe it was an unauthorized “test” and NOT an “actual attack” nor foreign intrusion attempt. pic.twitter.com/PolI9fu9Ak
