A Confederate monument called “Silent Sam” that was erected on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was toppled by protesters last night:

There was a protest at the statue that involved chanting, but it looks like things escalated from there:

The protest was called the “Until They All Fall” rally. What did they think would happen?

The statue does have an ugly past with white supremacist Julian Carr saying at its dedication, “Confederate soldiers ‘saved the very life of the Anglo Saxon race'”:

Workers were then called in to remove the fallen monument:

And it’s off to a secure, but undisclosed location:
