…which was immediately politicized — incorrectly, we might add — by Entertainment Weekly correspondent Dana Schwartz:
Imagine posting this on the day the top news story is 1500 children ripped from their parents who have no idea when they'll see them again. https://t.co/0aKvOe3B8F

Does she even care that she’s wrong about the 1500 missing kids, which anyone following the story AND CONCERNED ABOUT IT would know?
I get what you’re saying here, but the missing kids didn’t get separated from their parents. They were unaccompanied minors at the border.
Both issues are related (how can the govt protect kids they separate from their parents if they lost 1,500 kids?) but they’re not the same.

Yep. The missing 1500 kids are the opposite of “ripped from their parents” as they were taken into custody at the border as unaccompanied minors who were sent by their parents to America.
And while it’s true that the government can’t locate roughly 1500 of them after they were placed with relatives or sponsors here in the U.S., that doesn’t mean they’re missing. From Vox’s Dara Lind who points out that many of the kids are likely avoiding the government on purpose:

FYI, another point about this: we do not know how many of these children weren’t located because they and their relatives in the US (who might even be their parents!) made the decision to go off the grid to reduce deportation risk.
