It appears that Orvis is the latest retail company to bow to pressure by anti-gun activists, announcing in a response to Shannon Watts that the company will no longer sell shotguns to any customer under the age of 21 unless the customer has completed an “official Hunter Education & Safety course”:
@shannonrwatts We're raising our min. age for purchase of shotguns to 21. True to our commitment to safety & education, customers ages 18-21 can purchase a shotgun with proof that they've completed an official Hunter Education & Safety course. We do not sell assault-style rifles.

The move won the seal of approval from the activist group Moms Demand Action:
Thank you, @TheOrvisCompany, for putting #PeopleOverProfits. https://t.co/6DW0nfMgUE

Watts had been publicly pressuring Orvis to change its sales practices for days now:
Tell these companies #NoGunUntil21
Orvis: @TheOrvisCompany
Dunham Sports: @DunhamsSports
Gander Outdoors: @GanderOutdoors
Academy Sports: @Academy
Bass Pro: @BassProShops
Cabela's: @Cabelas
Big 5 Sporting Goods: @big5since55
Sportsmans Warehouse: @SportsmansWH https://t.co/jMRNC8XRYU— Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) March 2, 2018
But can Orvis actually do this? As we told you yesterday, a 20-year-old has filed a lawsuit against Walmart and DICK’s over their newly announced 21-and-over policies:
