The Washington Post’s David Fahrenthold, much celebrated for his reporting on Donald Trump and his donations to various charities, has a new piece up on how much Republican members of Congress are spending at Trump’s properties…
NEW: We tallied the top 10 GOP lawmakers who've spent the most campaign $ at @realdonaldtrump's properties. https://t.co/b6kjoicYOk

…but Fahrenthold accidentally proved that there’s no story here “because they spent so little”:
This list really surprised me. Not b/c other GOPers spent so much at @realdonaldtrump's properties. B/c they spent so little….1/ https://t.co/oD9A4qIVuy

HAHAHAHAHA! Even though Trump’s DC hotel is “perfect for political fundraisers”…
After all, @realdonaldtrump has a whole chain of meeting rooms/restaurants, including a fancy new hotel/steakhouse in D.C. Perfect for political fundraisers. 2/

…the amount of money spent, in total, is tiny:
But, in all, 40 GOP legislators spent $ at any of his properties this year, totalling abt $105K. Sounds like a lot. Not for DC. We found individual steakhouses that got more $ from GOPers than whole @realDonaldTrump empire. 3/

Even the biggest spender isn’t really a big spender at all:
And the GOPer who spent the most at @realDonaldTrump's hotel (@RepArrington) did so in early January! He spent $16K on a reception. Nobody's spent more since. 4/

We will note that it’s good of Fahrenthold to explain the article, but we’ll also note that none of this ended up in his story:
Sum up: I had expected a flood of $ from other GOP legislators to @realDonaldTrump properties. But we found a flood from Trump's own campaign (and the RNC), and a relative trickle from everybody else. For now. END.
