So it looks like Jonathan Alter finally checked his replies and figured out that Harvard constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe told him yesterday his theory that Steve Bannon would need Senate confirmation to sit in on NSC meetings was all wrong (as we told you):
I defer to @tribelaw on reading of murky NSC statute. Alas, by using Principals Committee loophole, Bannon doesn't need to be confirmed.

Alter had spent the day doubling-down on how he was right any everyone else was full of it:

Why wld I? DT's NSC EO says Bannon a principal and law says principals need confirmation. https://t.co/c9hIV2TIkc

But the damage was already done. As of the writing of this post, Alter’s correction has 24 RTs compared to his original tweet that has 15,000+ RTs and counting:
Breaking: obscure law requires Sen confirmation for WH aide like Bannon to serve on NSC. 50 U.S. Code § 3021 https://t.co/1sRQEnP3CY

Fake news which thousands of people consider real news now, thanks to Alter’s error.
