A few minutes ago on “CBS This Morning,” Ted Cruz had a little trouble answering questions from Nora O’Donnell on his new domestic anti-terror plan to “empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.”
“How many Muslims are in America,” O’Donnell asked in an effort to see if Cruz had any idea how the new surveillance plan would work. Cruz responded with a deer-in-the-headlightseque, “I don’t know the number off the top of my head”

The NYPD came out swinging as well. Here’s Commissioner William Bratton:
I took great offense at that statement.. For him to be denigrating the whole population. – @CommissBratton on Cruz pic.twitter.com/TLYkwpIFjp

And last night, the NYPD’s director of communications asked Cruz if he considered the NYPD’s Muslim cops a threat, too:
Hey, @tedcruz are our nearly 1k Muslim officers a "threat" too? It's hard to imagine a more incendiary, foolish statement
