Everything is awful. Republican-hating Lena Dunham has been cast as former Ronald Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan in the reading of a screenplay that mocks Reagan’s dementia in his second term.
Only in Hollywood…
Lena Dunham To Play @Peggynoonannyc In ‘Reagan’ Black List Live Readinghttps://t.co/UQQtbwWKNa— johnny dollar (@johnnydollar01) February 16, 2016
“Reagan” — named one of the top unproduced screenplays of 2015 by the Black List — is a fictional account of The Gipper’s second term where an intern “is tasked with convincing the commander-in-chief that he is an actor playing the president in a movie.”
It’s hoped that big-name stars like Dunham can bring attention during the live reading of the script and get the movie made. From Deadline Hollywood:
With other cast members to be announced in the next few weeks, the reading is set for the Montalban Theater in Hollywood at 8 PM March 5. As is customary in Black List live readings, Dunham also will portray a number of minor characters onstage, but Nancy Reagan is not one of them. While her astrologer is part of the script, the former First Lady does not appear in Reagan. As for the 40th POTUS, who died in 2004 after a decade suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, no word yet on who is Reagan himself – but might we suggest George Clooney or, to double your Presidents Day fun, Martin Sheen?

Dunham, who is best known for getting naked on HBO and promoting abortion and Hillary Clinton in her spare time, will portray Noonan who is known for Ronald Reagan’s awesome “Boys of Pointe Du Hoc” speech honoring those who died in the D-Day invasion.

Here’s Noonan talking about the speech, telling Megyn Kelly “he was keen on getting greater appreciation for the U.S. military from the American people.” Just like Lena Dunham, right?
