Of all the charges against Marco Rubio, is saying that he’s too pro-life in the middle of the GOP primary process really the best angle?

Mike Murphy — head of the Jeb Bush Super PAC “Right to Rise” — seems to think so:

Good luck with that. Also, what Murphy is saying isn’t really true:

Although former Obama hack Dan Pfeiffer agrees with Murphy, if that helps:

The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack doesn’t think Murphy’s attack will work though:

He writes:

Although Rubio opposes these exceptions in principle, he has made it clear he’s willing to accept them in practice. And the only pro-life legislation that has a plausible chance of landing on a President Rubio’s desk–popular bills banning taxpayer-funded and late-term abortion–include those exceptions.

Expressing opposition to an exception for abortion in these circumstances has not, by itself, proven to be toxic for many political candidates. Rubio himself won the swing state of Florida while holding this position in 2010. Paul Ryan, who takes the same position as Rubio, won his swing congressional district repeatedly. Scott Walker was hammered explicitly on the issue of abortion exceptions in 2010, 2012, and 2014 and he scored solid victories each time in a Democratic-leaning state.

  • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Wow, Murphy, way to screw up your own candidate (Jeb?) while bolstering the pro-life movement even more by showing your very deep RINO-ness!

  • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

So, I take it that Bush’s viewpoint on Abortion is…

“Kill ’em all, and let God sort ’em out…”

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

I saw a few people on Twitter sum it up best: Rubio can easily hit back on this by saying this proves Jeb (and Chris “I was proud to donate to Planned Parenthood until I declared my candidacy” Christie, who’s joining in on this attack) would move left on abortion if elected.

  • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

My goodness, the campaign for Mr “Please Clap” is getting a wee bit desperate, eh?

    • Jake Wilde

Yeah, he could retain more…well the tiny bit of dignity he has ever had and bow out.

      • journogal

We are talking about a politician; so, really, what dignity?

        • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

More importantly, we’re talkin’ Jeb? here…

  • il fait soleil

HAHAHAHHA!!! I’m blocked by Mike Murphy !!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

Murphy probably spent a few million dollars consulting others on whether or not he should block you.

      • il fait soleil

OMG you don’t suppose Barbara and Jeborah will show up trying to win me over do you?

    • The Marathon Man

I see that Jeb has won your vote now……..LOL

  • https://disqus.com/home/channel/ncaafchattertalkaboutcollegefootball/ David ✓’ed out

Even if Rubio was 100% dead set against any exceptions, ever, if that is supposedly the one thing that convinces someone to vote for Hillary or Bernie and not Rubio, I submit that voter was never going to vote for Rubio to begin with.

  • http://wandererswaysite.wordpress.com Wanderer

    Um, no. 100% wrong.

We don’t need “swing voters” who don’t make up their mind until they’re halfway through the line at the polls. Not if we have a candidate who energizes the base with strong committed beliefs like Marco or Ted.

But that’s right, Jeb wanted to tell the base to go f**k themselves.

    • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

Well, he thought he could win the nom without the base so….

      • Jake Wilde

His Progressive base is voting for Hillary or Bernie though….

        • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

That’s true. Poor Jeb. He needs to go do all those other cool things he could be doing instead of this.

  • DumbDrywaller

I love it when the super smart people tell us rubes who is electable and what is acceptable!
BTW how is iYeb!’s winning w/o the base going?

  • Giuseppe Franco

Mike Murphy is gonna need to file for unemployment after Jeb’s campaign finally crashes and burns because he has ensured he’ll never get a consulting gig with the Rubio or Cruz campaign if either of them wins the nomination.

He’s the architect of what has undoubtedly been the worst run campaign of this election cycle

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

I nominate Mike Murphy for the Democratic campaign. They deserve him.

  • Laticia

Rubio’s position is not a killer with this woman. And wouldn’t have been if he had been able to run in my 20’s. I can deal with the exceptions…but personally I would have never used the exceptions as an excuse to kill a child.

    • Andrew Curlutu

That’s a very ethical and strong position to take. Thank you.

  • Comrade Hadenov

So, he should be “nuanced” in regards to unborn children, like you are implying your candidate is? Which party is your campaign running for? My bad, apparently “running from” is a more accurate assessment.

  • jaded

    Go away Jeb!

  • marcus tullius cicero

  • http://www.unpczone.com Chris Carter

For crying out loud, the brother of the guy he works for won an election after vetoing stem cell research. By his argument, George W. Bush should have lost in a landslide in 2004.

If Rubio loses a general, it will have everything to do with Republicans refusing to vote for him because of the Gang of Eight.

    • aka_m

And if they do that allowing a Hillary win- we deserve the hillary presidency.

    • Karla1953

And if they allow Hillary to win because of that then they(non voters)need to STFU for the next 4 yrs EOS

  • Andrew

I don’t want to claim I would be better at his job than he is or anything, but if you think tarring somebody as “too pro life” is a winning strategy in the GOP primary, than campaign consultancy might not be your best career choice.

  • Victor Kilo

Mike Murphy: a.k.a. the guy who spent $50M of other people’s money to get 2% of the vote in Iowa.

  • Maxx

Is this the same MM who advised the campaigns of McCain and Romney?

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

The guy who pretty much set donors’ money on fire to prop up Jeb is accusing a GOP candidate of being too pro-life. Let that sink in.

  • Kate

Maybe Right to Rise should just go back to finding new ways to waste their donors’ money…seriously, who thought this was a good idea?

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

I heard Right to Rise is still airing anti-Rubio ads in Iowa.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

This is like when Dole and Lott spoke in favor of Trump over Cruz. Murphy is only helping the guy he’s trying to hurt.

  • Lizzyp

Jeb! needs to stop it. Stop pouting, stop pretending and stop being such a punk a$$ b!itch. One of the other guys is going to be the nominee. Stop giving the dem opposition research teams so much to work with. Stop sh!ting on your opponents. Salvage whatever dignity you can, and hopefully a few relationships with the people you’ve been attacking and DROP OUT OF THE RACE!!!!

  • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

Sum up Mike Murphy: Jeb Bush is just giving lip service to pro life postion

  • globalcrap

Jeb Bush , abort yourself out of the
    race. Thanks

  • lonestar

Is this the guy who just spent 50 million taking Jeb Bush from 15% to 3%?

  • Elizabeth Bennett

I am just sick of mushy principles. Let’s run a true pro-life candidate [preferably Cruz, but Rubio maybe] against an extreme kook like Hillary that believes that ‘science’ proves that a baby morphs from something closer to a potato into a human being with God-given rights during a magic six-inch trip down the birth canal. Let the chips fall where they may.

    • tverle

Guess in her mind that would make mine 17 year old potatoes because I had a c-section. They didn’t make that magical trip. I guess I need to have a long talk with them…..

      • Elizabeth Bennett

        Hmmm- I have a 10-year-old potato too

        • swg

          Crap, I guess I’m just a 50yo potato.

          • genes ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Potatoes, like fine wine, get better with age.
            if they don’t rot.

  • The Marathon Man

Memo to GOP Super PAC Chairpersons: If Dan Pfeiffer agrees with your position on ANYTHING, you might as well just repurpose yourself as a Shrillary or Doc Brown Super PAC….

  • spankovision

Versus only a wee bit pro-life or mostly pro-life? He needs to do some splainin

    • All for Naught

It’s for when you’re almost Pregnant.

  • https://twitter.com/rockinranger81 BenB

Jeb and Rubio are both too pro-amnesty to win.

  • trangbang68

The di*khead Murphy ought to know about “big losers”. He’s backed every one of them

  • Andrew Curlutu

Somebody needs to get Mike Murphy professional help. And while they are at it, tear up his campaign charge card. The Republican Party doesn’t have pro-abortion zealots running for President for a reason, tool.
