From the way the MSM is covering the Flint water story, you’d think it was an isolated problem thanks to Michigan’s Republican governor. For example the tweet above from Michael Moore calling for the arrest of Gov. Rick Snyder and this one from the Natural Resources Defense Council:

But guess what? Lead in the water is a problem for many older cities and when you compare the actual lead measured in the blood of kids from Flint to kids in other cities, Flint comes out much, much better.

Check it out:

Vox went on to criticize these Democrat-run utopias for not disclosing data on lead exposure to the public even though they’re receiving taxpayer dollars to do so:

Vox reached out to the six cities currently receiving funding from the CDC — Houston, Texas, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Chicago, and New York City. Of the six cities, only two were able to provide lead exposure data at the neighborhood level. The other four are getting money to monitor lead exposure — but aren’t making the results easily accessible to the public.

Mother Jones is covering it too, reporting that Michigan’s water is even better than the U.S. as a whole:

So, when will the NRDC, Rachel Maddow, Michael Moore and every other liberal who tried to politicize this issue start to go after all the cities, mayors and governors regardless of party affiliation where they think this is an issue?

  • HiltonHead_Dude

I find it remarkable that Democrats want to blame the Governor of Michigan, a Republican, but give a pass to the mayor of Flint, or the President of the USA, whose own EPA ignored problems. Of course both the Mayor and President are Democrat.

Back during Katrina, the Democrats skipped blaming the Mayor and Governor of the State, both Democrat, and went right to blaming the President…a Republican.

It’s almost as if they are being political, which is something they always say Republicans are guilty of.

        • Luv2GoFly

Do you even understand how bankruptcy works? It can be a beneficial tool in that it allows companies to hold their creditors at bay while they have the opportunities to restructure their finances and come to a stronger financial position. Bankruptcy forces companies to either get their finances in order or go out of business. Many companies have gone through bankruptcy and come out stronger, Continental Airlines, for example. That’s precisely what should have happened to the auto industry instead of the government using taxpayers to bail out inefficient companies.

Unless Gov Snyder was in charge when the LEAD WATER pipes were laid in Flint he holds little responsibility since the city went back to the Detroit water supply last October.

“The city reconnected to Detroit’s water system in October, but the damage was done. Water from the Flint River was found to be highly corrosive to the lead pipes
still used in some parts of the city. Even though Flint River water no
longer flows through the city’s pipes, it’s unclear how long those pipes
will continue to leach unsafe levels of lead into the tap water
supply. Experts currently say the water is safe for bathing, but not drinking.”

Lead contamination in Washington, D.C. drinking water

“The discovery of widespread lead contamination in Washington, D.C. drinking water resulted in a U.S. Congressional investigation that damaged the scientific reputation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), left thousands of children with lifelong health risks, and led to a re-evaluation of the use of chloramine in public drinking-water systems. Marc Edwards, an expert in plumbing corrosion, discovered lead levels at least 83 times higher than the accepted safe limit while performing research into premature pipe corrosion for the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (WASA). He found that the decision to change from using chlorine to chloramine as a treatment chemical had caused the spike in lead levels. After the Washington Post ran a series of front-page articles about Edwards’s findings, resulting in widespread public concern, the United States House of Representatives
conducted an investigation. The House found that the CDC had made
“scientifically indefensible” claims in a report that had indicated
there was no risk from the high lead levels. The Post
investigation uncovered evidence of widespread misreporting of lead
levels at water agencies across the United States, leading to regulatory
crackdowns and changes in Environmental Protection Agency policies.

The problem was addressed in 2004 by adding additional treatments to
the water, preventing the chloramine from dissolving lead in the water
    mains, solder joints, and fixtures.

In 2010, the CDC reported that 15,000 homes in the Washington, D.C. area might still have water supplies with dangerous levels of lead.”,_D.C._drinking_water#2004:_Washington_Post

“House panel subpoenas ex-EPA Midwest chief over Flint water crisis”

    “The U.S. House of Representatives
has subpoenaed the former Midwest chief of the Environmental Protection
Agency over the Flint, Michigan, drinking water crisis, Representative
    Jason Chaffetz said on Wednesday.

The panel subpoenaed EPA’s Susan Hedman to appear at a
deposition in Washington later this month. Hedman, who resigned this
week, had played down a memo by an EPA employee that said tests had
shown high levels of lead in the city’s water, telling Flint and

  • Sayeed2k

One of the problems with the way this story is being spun is that it quotes data from VOX about lead exposure which was done inadvertently to an exposure done purposely. Secondly the VOX article does not distinguish between exposed to lead contaminated drinking water and exposure from other environmental sources. Thirdly the article does not mention that lead exposure among Flint’s children has been on a 20 year decline. Finally the article fails to mention the damage to children caused by lead exposure. Finally the article fails to mention that Flint was under he control of an Emergency Manager who was under the control of Michigan’s Republican governor (not the Flint Mayor or the City Council) bypassed the 6 months of testing which would have revealed the hazard to the people of Flint before the water was switched. No the writer is too busy trying to protect the conservative/republican brand to give a damn about intellectual honesty or the lives of the victims in this disaster.

    • Josephine Schmo

Whether “intentionally” (which would suggest they knew beforehand that switching water sources would poison residents. Not the case.) or “inadvertently” the problem is that the other states KNOWINGLY allow it to continue despite getting taxpayer money, coffers that will be refilled come April 16, to take care of the issue!
How can that NOT be worse?

      • Sayeed2k

This was an avoidable situation in a city with declining levels of lead exposure. You can’t get past those pesky facts.

    • Hannibal

Yeah, let’s talk about the victims in Flint. Some of the victims collected their free bottled water and then began returning them to the big boxes for cash. The people giving it out began putting slashes across the bar codes but they found a way to erase the slash and still were returning them for cash. The free filters and refills began showing up as returns any place they were sold retail. Now they cut out the bar code from the boxes before giving them out. Talked to a guy today that used mass transit this week. He said that all along the route people were getting on the bus with a case of bottled water. He asked the driver why everyone was carrying water. He said the MTA said that anyone getting water could ride for free, so now lots of them just carry the water and ride for nothing.

      • Sayeed2k

Anecdotal evidence about people who were poisoned selling filters and water? no mention of what percentage of the City of Flint this was or what relevance this has to the price of beans. Are you saying they deserved to be poisoned? You really hate poor people don’t you?

As someone who lives in the area, the lead is only part of it. As soon as the inadequately treated water started going to homes, it was now brown or orange (varying shades, depending on where you are in the city), people were experiencing their hair falling out, skin rashes, damaged appliances, etc. GM considered the water so bad that it got special permission to switch back to the old system, because the water was CORRODING MACHINERY in their plants. Now, I think the whole arrest synder stuff is ridiculous, but please, don’t minimize just how horrible this is. Water that was corroding car parts in a GM plant being given to citizens, who were then told “it’s safe”…even after the government gave GM permission to stop using it.
