Donald Trump just accused Ted Cruz of stealing the Iowa caucuses over the Cruz campaign’s admission that it helped spread a rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race:

The thought here is that Carson votes went to Cruz after the rumor was started and that it only took a small number of voters per caucus site to give Cruz the win.

CNN had reported that Carson was taking a break from the campaign before the caucus even started, which is where Cruz’s campaign allegedly first heard the story (note the countdown clock at the bottom-left):

Cruz went on to apologize to Carson over spreading the rumor:

Trump also hit Cruz over the controversial mailer designed to “shame” voters into caucusing:

Our coverage of the mailer story:

Daughter claims Ted Cruz’s vote shaming mailer gave her dead mother an ‘F’

Disabled woman who can’t caucus this year calls Ted Cruz a ‘bully’ after getting named on his mailer

Ted Cruz says he’ll use every tool he can, including controversial ‘vote shaming’ mailer

Update. Trump added another tweet after we published the post:

Update 2. Oh boy:

I’m pretty sure Carson would agree, although I doubt he scooped up enough of the good doctor’s votes to have made a significant percentage difference. Still, it’s vintage Trump hyperbole, which makes it entertaining…

Actually Ben finished ahead of expectations, so what is HE crying about.

so Donald, if I were you I would be more worried that those Carson supporters did not vote for you!! Perhaps they feel the Cruz represents their interests closer than you do?

By a surprising two points — which probably came out of Trump’s people, as a good part of Rubio’s extra 8 or 9 points probably did. There were a lot of Iowans apparently PO’d that Trump “disrespected” them by not showing up to the final debate.

I kind of wonder if he DID think of it first and just tried to make it LOOK like Cruz did it. Let’s face it, it sounds much more like the kind of BS Trump would try to pull than Cruz would…

  • CrazyDaze✓veridicous

Ann Coulter will be quite upset tomorrow that her shining star fell out of the sky.

    • aka_m

That chick has gone off the rails. She’s like a caricature of what the left thinks the right is.

    • HiltonHead_Dude

Ann jumped the shark when she tweeted that “she didn’t care if Trump preformed abortions in the White house, because she loved his immigration policy so much.”

So she flipped on abortion, all because Trump said he’d build a wall, and have Mexico pay for it. Never mind he never explained how he would have them pay.

      • DwellsInFire

She didn’t flip on abortion. She was making a point about how much the immigration issue meant to her compared to other issues… BTW, abortion has been legal during every “conservative” president that’s been in office during my lifetime. And I can’t imagine any future conservative president is going to outlaw it, so it’s almost a non-issue anyway.

        • CanofSand

          Industrial-scale murder is never a non-issue.

          • DwellsInFire

It becomes a non-issue if no candidate is going to put a stop to it. All it currently amounts to is a candidate’s personal moral beliefs.

          • Petrucio14

A president can’t unilaterally change existing law (no matter what Obama thinks). The presidency is, however a bully pulpit.

        • HiltonHead_Dude

words matter, so she flipped. it may not matter, it may be all theatrics, but for many conservatives, abortion is an issue that is not used to make theater. and most conservatives rate the abortion issue on the same level as immigration, if not higher.

but i will say i’ve never met a conservative who felt abortion was a “non issue” ever, and they do calculate a candidates position on abortion as to whether they would vote for them or not. it isn’t the only issue, but it’s pretty near the top.

          • DwellsInFire

That you actually think Ann Coulter is now pro-abortion because of her comment means you’re not using your brain like an adult. Her words were all about theatrics, as anybody who understands Ann Coulter should know. Abortions aren’t performed in the White House, so that should have been a hint. It’s not up to you as to whether someone can use abortion as theatrics, as you’re starting to sound like some liberal thought/word police… Again, the point of her comment wasn’t about abortion, it was about immigration.

    • JosephBloughs ✓Viagrafied

Get ready for a Canada rant. In the meantime take consolation that her endorsement record lately is about as stellar as Karl Rove’s consultation.

  • Pookiedr

Even if a Cruz campaign staffer did tell them that Dr. Carson was dropping out of the race, it is incumbent upon them to verify the claim.

    • The Dragon

Exactly. If you don’t do your own research, and in this case listen to the campaign of YOUR own candidate, then you are a low info voter. If I was supporting Carson, I wouldn’t believe a word the other candidates said about him until they either verified it or I discovered it was true myself.

  • Shoeless Joe

It is impossible to tell is the disinformation actually caused a vote migration to Cruz.
It is also impossible to prove that those votes did not.
What is true is that now Cruz comes under more scrutiny,
and that is a problem. That Voter Violation mailing was a clear
dirty trick, and the “Carson dropped out” strategy does not look
    like an honest mistake.

    • SunshineStater

Given how rumors swirl about lower polling candidates dropping out, and Dr. Carson going home (to Florida!) for fresh clothing, I can see that as an honest mistake. I despised the mailer, though.

      • barefooted_rascal

I would be inclined to agree with you on it being a mistake, but if it truly is a mistake, then Cruz should get rid of his communications guy. Rick Tyler’s explanation of the “mistake” sounded more like an insincere Trump excuse. Defending the campaign’s actions with, “We were only repeating what Carson himself had said,” shows no remorse for the mistake and makes it appear that they were strategic in their dissemination of information in an attempt to benefit from it. If Cruz is sincerely sorry and didn’t know what was going on, he should get rid of Rick Tyler, his communications guy. I would add that Cruz’s own defense of the despicable mailers (“I’ll apologize to nobody for using every tool we can…”) makes me question the sincerity of his apology to Carson. Both the mailers and the Carson “misunderstanding” have turned me off of Cruz. It’s a shame, because I liked him, but I’m sick of this kind of crap.

    • https://twitter.com/rockinranger81 Ben Bollman

CNN was the one who reported it, the Cruz campaign was just reacting. Also, the “Voter Violation” mailing is a non-issue, those have been around forever.

      • Conservative4Ever

Exactly. Those voter violation cards have been used by dozens & dozens of candidates over the years. The Rubio campaign used them also. It’s a big nothing burger.

    • Conservative4Ever

CNN reported it. A Carson campaign staffer affirmed it. Cruz did nothing wrong. Carson is an amateur at politics. Him saying he is going home to get a change of clothes is a mistake on his part.

      • Marla Hughes

The staffer verified that Carson was going to go to DC, not that he was dropping out. In fact, when I viewed the snippet I didn’t get the impression that the _candidate that was polling in third place_ was going to drop out before the voting even began.

          • NachoCheese (D)

A good read. Very interesting, and yes, it took me awhile to stop laughing…

One point though, the “voter incentive” is a bad idea. If someone is too lazy or disinterested to vote then they shouldn’t and nor should they be encouraged. The last thing we need is more people who really don’t give a s**t, casting votes in the hopes of a cash reward.

          • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Ah, but here’s the thing! Each state could put in “test” questions that had to be answered to determine voter intelligence. Anybody who could identify more than two Kardashians would be immediately disqualified…

          • NachoCheese (D)

            I’m more:
            – must own real property
            AND
            – have a positive tax bill

            in order to vote

          • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Throw in proof of citizenship, and (shock! horror!) a photo ID, and I think we’ve got a winner…

          • NachoCheese (D)

I assumed the ID went with the proof of real property ownership/positive tax bill, but yeah I can get behind a valid U.S. Passport as proof of U.S. citizenship as well.

          • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Well, legal residents can own property and pay taxes, which is why I mentioned.

        • bil_g

And who was on the legal team that Bush assigned to handle Bush v Gore?

          Ted Cruz

          • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Okay, that could either mean that Cruz understand election law better than anybody and handled himself well within the boundaries (both letter and spirit) of the law, or that Cruz stole the election.

So, let me ask you. Do you have any complaints about the make-up choices of the election officials in Iowa?

          • bil_g

Sorry, maybe I’m just slow today. I don’t get the question. I haven’t had any complaints about the results in Iowa and I hadn’t really thought of whether they preferred Maybelline or Chanel. ;P

I only brought up Cruz as an example of him being involved in some of the important legal matters over the last 1 1/2 decades or so. Not some newcomer dindu. Even Heller(Amicus Brief). That one and Medillin v Texas are really the ones that I consider most important to his record.

Your either/or is, of course, quite valid. I just tend to believe it’s choice a.

          • Doc Farmer✔ᶜᵒᵛᶠᵉᶠᵉ ᵈᵉᵖˡᵒʳᵃᵇˡᵉ

Oh, wasn’t doing anything more than clarifying. Either answer is valid…

          • Evan3457

That is possible. But even in four years, Hillary might be able to stack the Supreme Court with 2 or 3 more Sotomayors and Kagans.

Then it won’t matter who’s elected in 2020; it’s game over.

Absolutely! That was the time when you could no longer say who you were voting for if it was Bush or another Republican because you would be shouted down completely.
During the Vietnam War, conversations would start out as debates and end up as shouting matches all over the country, but in 2000, just to say you weren’t voting Dem had them starting out chewing your head off. I think Rush likes to go for reactions and kind of toy with people a bit, but eventually he gets serious.

    • Mike Achertz

Or Breitbart. (what the hell happened to THAT site? To me, it’s a completely different beast since Andrew’s passing.)

  • D H

Stole the election? Fine, if he did, call the Cops and file a report. Otherwise, build a bridge and get over it

  • Oak Tree Lady

I am so disappointed in Ted Cruz. He and his followers are using more dirty tricks than Professor Fate in “The Great Race.” Him using religion, taking advantage of the Tea Party, the mailers, the lying about Carson, the whole Canada thing. I used to feel that he would make a good Vice President, but now I know he would not. We don’t need more career politicians, they are ALL THE SAME!

    • Elizabeth Bennett

      1) Him using religion? Ted Cruz’s father became a practicing evangelical in Texas when Cruz was a child. Cruz has been a practicing Southern Baptist for years. But Trump laughably claiming to be an evangelical and showing up at a church the day before caucuses and throwing money into the communion plate is fine?

      2) Mailers? Trump and the media made a mountain out of a molehill over a normal campaign mailer. Telling people “your voting record, as well as your neighbor’s, is public record get out and vote to improve your score.” Is fair game and to say otherwise is silly.

3). He did not lie about Carson. “CNN reported at approximately 4:45 PM ET that Carson was going home to Florida after Iowa. Rep. Steve King (R-IA), a Cruz supporter, tweeted what everyone in the political world was thinking: “Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope.” At 5:08 PM ET CNN itself tweeted, “After the #IAcaucus, @RealBenCarson plans to take a break from campaigning.” A Cruz staffer then told precinct captains, “Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week. Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz.” Apparently, Rubio also “pushed the narrative hard” that Carson was dumping out of the race, according to a tweet from Conrad Close, who identifies as a Rubio supporter. Cruz has apologized for the screw-up.” TDW
There is no evidence that Cruz was involved at all, but he graciously apologize d to Carson and Carson graciously accepted.

4). The Canadian thing was a birther issue pushed by Trump to try to cast doubt on Cruz’s eligibility in the minds of the voters. There was never one iota of a problem with Cruz’s citizenship. As the Board of Election just ruled, saying: “No further discussion of this issue is necessary.”

      • Hi This Is My Username

THANK YOU! Finally some damn common sense and thinking skills!

      • TruthAlwaysRight

        Elizabeth Bennett
Thank you for your post. Best I have read on this whole subject and what I consider to be the truth.
I am so glad the Board of Elections has finally ruled so Trump can put that aside and tell us what he would really do as president if he did win. So far all I have heard him say is it would be wonderful, fantastic and so forth but no details. I am voting Ted Cruz as I know where he stands.

  • Giuseppe Franco

This is exactly what I expected Trump to do.

He and his sycophants cannot accept that the voters rejected his bullshit, so everything is going to be a conspiracy whether it’s Cruz now or the establishment media and/or politicians colluding to take Trump down.

The central theme of his campaign has been based on him being a winner and reinforced by the fact that he’s been the GOP front runner for 7 months, so something nefarious or fraudulent must have happened if The Donald doesn’t win.

And the mindless Trumpbots will eat it up.

This is going to be the narrative every time he loses. It’s going to be Al Gore 2000 all over again.

    • Andy Rigo ✓ᵗᵉʳʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

And when he loses upcoming primaries, he’ll claim he’s being treated unfairly and take his marbles and run third (turd) party.

  • Richard J Sunkle

This circus just gets better and better.

  • Dan Abbett

Since Donald Trump is using all the disgusting tactics against his opponents that you would expect to see from Democrats, I am going to meet him half way and vote several times for Ted Cruz in the primary. Hey, Trump is setting the standard, I feel obligated to do my part.

He needs to stop right there. I still remember the hell of the 2000 election between Gore and Bush. I don’t want to go through that again. Concede and move on, Trump. It’s just one [censored] state. You have 49 to go.

    • tops116 ✓Quipper

That’s the sure mark of Trump being a liberal right there: he’s being as big a crybaby as Gore was.

While I am no way a Trumpbot, I believe Ted Cruz should be called out on his latest campaign shenanigans. What’s next, flipping coins over precinct ties? If it’s good enough for Emperor Cankles Palpatine, it’s good enough for us? Embrace the suck!

Might as well use a coin toss to decide the presidency. We are slowly slipping in that direction.

    • idalily

Cheddar, I usually agree with you on issues, but in this case, I respectfully disagree. Politics ain’t beanbag. It is dirty and messy and not very nice, especially this time, because someone pure as the driven snow will never beat Hillary Clinton. And the entire fate of our nation could very well be at stake. Cruz’s people running with a CNN story after Carson’s own actions seems pretty tame to me. My feeling is that this is a big, fat nothing burger.

      • Rogue Cheddar

Well, on the surface it doesn’t become a statesman. We have enough ‘Party Uber Alles’ poinyoins running our lives. I’m not asking for virginal chastity, but I’m not looking for poxy guttersnipes either.

        • idalily

Understood. I just don’t think this crosses that line.

          • Rogue Cheddar

Probably not, but combined with the vote shaming mailers where names were published I think was a bit over. He could’ve made his point without naming names. I don’t recall Reagan engaging in such antics.

          • idalily

Maybe so, but Reagan was running against Carter and Mondale. Our nominee will be running against Hillary. It’s a different era. I don’t like it, but it’s true. Clinton will use whatever dirty trick she can, with the help of the media.

          • Rogue Cheddar

I liked it better back in the day of Mayberry, me and Opie were the same age. Just a nicer time.

          • idalily

On that we completely agree. I fear I ‘m getting old, because I really think the world is going to he11 in a handbasket, and these crazy kids in all the generations after mine are immature, pie-in-the-sky nuts who will destroy the human race. 🙂

Man behind the updated Loser.com: Donald Trump ‘is the definition of a loser’

Brian Connelly, the proud proprietor of Loser.com, may be one of the
Internet’s greatest and most underrated trolls. When a Wisconsin
congressman’s antics annoyed him, he redirected the site to an article
about him. When Kanye West insulted Beck, whom Connelly likes, Loser.com
    pointed to West’s Wikipedia entry.

Now Loser.com redirects to the Wikipedia page of Donald Trump — but this
time, Connelly wants to make clear that he isn’t merely trolling.

“In all reality, a man who attacks Muslims, who attacks Muslim Americans,
who pushes fear and doubt — that’s the definition of a loser right
there,” Connelly said. “I don’t care for him at all.”

  • Arttie the Deplorable

Oh joy, and we are only 4 years from the 2020 Iowa caucuses.

  • udcrabbymom

I can understand Ben Carson being upset, but if you look at the polls the week before the Iowa caucuses he was polling anywhere between 5 and 11%. He ended up with 9% of the vote. Even if you took away 2 percentage points from Cruz and gave them to Carson to make 11%, Cruz still wins. As far as the mailer goes, I don’t like a lot of the mailers I get, even from candidates I like. Donald is doing what Donald does best, tear everyone else down to prop up his own inflated ego. Donald seems to forget how he tore down Ben Carson himself calling him a liar over the belt buckle/stabbing incident Carson described in his book, or casting doubt on his recovery from his “pathological anger”, equating it child molestation. Donald, go hide under your hair.

  • fragglerock61

    Crybabies gonna cry.

Wah! Wah! Waaaaahhhh! Somebody call the waaaahhhmbulance.

    • Yup

      It happened. Cruz even apologized.

There will never be another 2016 Iowa caucus, but Trump is trying to keep this story alive. We’ll see what happens.

      • Mercyneal

IT will cause him to go down in the polls in New Hampshire. Rubio will come in second and it will be close

      • nc ✓s & balances

Cruz apologized. Let that sink in. When has that ever happened?

        • Yup

Prior to the Cruz apology, Trump haters on the right were scoffing that it didn’t even happen and Carson was imagining things.

  • CountMahdrof

If Trump did the same. it would be “I do what I have to to win, just like I will do for America”

  • GRComments

    Sore loser.

  • mike dar

Cruz had a better organization.. just that simple. The organization included the ‘mailer’ issue.. and the ‘Carson issue.. just that simple.

Every campaigning candidate that has won, has utilized a few ‘tricks’, tricks that only the candidates Party, DNC or RNC, can bring to a stop… but the National parties are knee deep in playing games also so…

There is the directing of/brass ring- of 16 trillion dollars of commercial activity, the candidates fight for, and the parties hope to access the Treasury/tax revenues (and borrowing totaling trillions) while the candidate will start his way to becoming a billionaire with a tax free Foundation if elected in after office rewards.

The voters are stuck, shafted, demeaned to simply hoping for something different.

If Americans are ever to expect a President to be elected representing the voters, they will have to wait for a candidate that points these things out, that he will receive zero pay, zero rewards, zero lobbyists/ That candidate will have to have expertise where banking, 20% of GDP, is concerned. He will need an understanding of desperation the ‘establishment will utilize in defeating him/her even unto physically having him attacked.

Otherwise we face an inevitable evolution towards violent objections from main street. At some point, a little bloodshed is inevitable, the question is only when.

Meanwhile the Inverse Totalitarianism will continue. Americans will be directed to blaming each other.

  • nc ✓s & balances

So now we know. It’s Official. That 3 minute “gracious” love-note speech to Iowa (“I might buy a farm!”) was just a big, phony act from this big, phony man.

  • CrazyDaze✓veridicous

So, update #2, if there is any vote that doesn’t go the way The Donald wants it to go, then he will cry foul and make the vote null and void and get his way in the end.

This sounds a lot like the makings of a dictator.

    • udcrabbymom

I see so much of Obama in Trump. That’s what scares me the most about him. He can’t take the least bit of criticism, can’t be a gracious loser, and doesn’t think he ever needs to ask for forgiveness, even from God.

      • Factory_Hag

What has me disturbed is when it comes out that he has done or said something that is exactly the same thing that we have been fighting against for years now, his supporters don’t only turn a blind eye, don’t operate in denial, but come out and praise him, saying that that’s just what the Donald does and it’s fine with them. Some people should go back and read their old posts–from as late as last year! I want to believe he is what he says he is, and not what people say he was, but then he seems to make statements that seem like the old Donald, almost on purpose, to see how far he can push his supporters. Or is it so later, he can claim, “You knew I was like this when you voted me in”. I went from wary, to relaxed, to wary again with him.

        • udcrabbymom

          Ditto.

        • idalily

I feel like he is running a con on the entire country and that behind our backs he’s laughing at how stupid we are (probably while he’s on the phone to Hillary)

      • idalily

I know, right? You’d think people would have had enough of whiny little jerks with snappy slogans and no actual policy ideas running for president, but…evidently not.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Another day, another example of Trump acting like a whiny baby. You lost, Trump. Accept it.

    • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

It looks like he was using Carson as a splitter and Carson couldn’t split enough of the evangelical vote to stop Cruz from winning so Trump could come in first. So unimpressed with Trump now.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

They say you can judge a man by how he reacts to losing. Trump’s demonstrating that he’s a big ol’ whiner clearly not mature enough to be president.

  • M & M

Well, we have a real preview of the antics yet to come. It’s going to be a long election season. Tiresome….

  • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

This is incredibly stupid. My list included Trump, Cruz, Rubio and Christie wildcard. Scratch Trump he’s alienating potential voters left and right.

    • Elizabeth Bennett

No kidding– I was prepared to vote for Trump if necessary but he is becoming increasingly abrasive and frankly so are his supporters. If the Carson campaign leaks it is not going to NH or SC, any reasonable person would conclude he is not all in. For another candidate’s campaign to mention that fact is not ‘cheating’ or ‘dirty tricks.’

Trump on the other hand smearing Cruz as ‘nasty,’ ‘hated by colleagues’ and ‘not a natural born citizen,’ IS dirty, classless and desperate.

      • Zombie Nixon

Cruz was a citizen of Canada up until 18 months ago. Pointing that out is classless??

        • Elizabeth Bennett

Constantly falsely implying that Cruz is ineligible to run for president, is Obamaesque, and classless, yes.

          • Zombie Nixon

A natural born citizen definition is both parents are american citizens at Ted’s birth. Ted’s father and mother were Canadian citizens when he was born.

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Yes, I understand this is the birther argument, your problem is most constitutional scholars disagree, the law that was in affect at the times of Cruz’s birth disagrees and the Illinois Board of Election (where the test case was put forth) put this question to bed on Monday saying that were Cruz not a natural born citizen he would have had to go through a naturalization process, which he didn’t, and that ‘no further discussion is necessary on this issue.”

To continue to pound this drum comes across desperate and silly.

          • Zombie Nixon

FACT: Both of Ted’s parents were Canadian citizen when he was born..
FACT: Hillary or Bernie will use this in the general election
FACT: This will cost the Ted votes in the general election.

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Fact: Someone must have a citizen parent who resided in the United States for at least 10 years, including five after the age of 14, in order to be considered a natural-born citizen. Cruz’s mother, Eleanor Darragh, was born in Delaware, lived most of her life in the United States, and gave birth to little Rafael Edward Cruz in her 30s. Cruz meets the criteria as I have already shown.

Fact: Hillary or Bernie can use it to their hearts content, it won’t matter. It will just be one more in an arsenal of dirty tricks Hillary or Bernie would use.

Fact: This won’t matter in the general election to anyone who is not already voting Democrat, unless Trump spitefully decides to run third party and throw the election to Hillary or Bernie.

          • Zombie Nixon

Eleanor Darragh, was born in Delaware RENOUNCED her citizenship to be come citizen of Canada. She was a canadian citizen when she gave birth to Rafael.

            http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/01/08/ted-cruz-parents-canada-voters-list/

Canadian law restricts (and restricted) federal voting rights to Canadian citizens. How about that? Take note Americans.

That will cost a lot of votes…

Oh and wait till they find out that Ted Cruz family members supported Castro… I guarantee Cruz will lose Florida

I bet when Mitt McRubio starts talking about it, it will be ok.

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Okay, yeah you betcha. Hope you understand if I choose to trust the Illinois Voter Board, the Cato Institute and a majority of Constitutional scholars over someone named “Reefer” on the internet.

Not an insult at all- just an explanation of why continuing this discussion is an exercise in futility. I have given you three credible sources to show why the experts say that you are wrong. You brush that aside and link me to pro-Trump Breitbart. If you choose to take it as an insult that is on you.

Ummm the article you link denies Cruz’s mother renounced her citizenship and doesn’t even make that claim. It just says she was listed on a list that showed people in a voting district. It wasn’t a list of ‘eligible voters.’ So you either did not read the article you are linking to, or are betting that no one else would.

          • Zombie Nixon

All you Cruzers are doing is opening the door for Mitt McRubio

          • Elizabeth Bennett

I do support Cruz, but I was prepared to give Trump the benefit of the doubt should he be the nominee. However, these classless and sometimes blatantly dishonest attacks by Trump and his supporters are making that idea very difficult to contemplate

          • Zombie Nixon

FACT: Ted Cruz lied to voters at the caucus that Ben Carson is dropping out.
FACT: TED CRUZ lied about Trump’s abortion position.

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Fact: Nope, Ted Cruz didn’t lie about Ben Carson:

From TDW: He did not lie about Carson. Cruz has apologized for the screw-up.” TDW

There is no evidence that Cruz was involved at all, but he graciously apologize d to Carson and Carson graciously accepted.

FACT: If you trust Trump on abortion I can only describe you as gullible. Trump vacillations on abortion spin one’s head, one day he wants to defund Planned Parenthood, the next day he says we can’t do that ‘because they provide other services.’ He has stated that he ‘does not believe abortion is murder as long as it is legal,’ Huh? He has stated his rabidly pro-abortion (including partial-birth abortion) sister would make a ‘phenomenal Supreme Court justice,’ A woman who even opposed the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. Furthermore, Trump won’t commit to defining when personhood begins, a stance some body part traffickers maintain, when justifying their actions.

          • Zombie Nixon

            Ya that’s lying…

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Nope— Carson signaled he was ending his campaign. A campaign staffer of Cruz’s tweeted it AFTER CNN reported it. To call that a lie is an preposterous misrepresentation of the facts– but I am beginning to think that is Trumps MO.

And that is exactly what she said. Can you not read?

Looks like primary school was let out early today.

          • Zombie Nixon

Both Cruz and Schwarzenegger are citizens…

Neither are eligible to become president.

            Schwarzenegger parents were Austrian citizens
            Cruz parents were CANADIAN CITIZENS.

My two children are American Citizens. They were both born in Illinois. They were both born of Canadian parents. They both have birth certificates from the US government. When we moved back to Canada, we had to get them naturalized here. They are now dual citizens.

          • Zombie Nixon

you guys are doing what Obama did. Obama was a citizen. BUT NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.

He could have been born in the Lincoln bedroom, but his father wasn’t a citizen… Both Parents have to be citizens to be NATURAL BORN CITIZENS.

Obamas mother became a citizen of Indonesia

          • CrazyDaze✓veridicous

Please provide to me the law of Natural Born Citizen. Not your all caps screaming.

          • Zombie Nixon

I cannot believe that I am having this argument.

Ted Cruz’s parents were CANADIAN CITIZENS.

          • CrazyDaze✓veridicous

So you cannot provide to me any of the requesting information? Only screaming in all caps.

          • Elizabeth Bennett

Just stop, you are making yourself absurd. Your own article denies that Cruz’s mother ever renounced her citizenship. There are no documents filed to indicate that she did so, something that the US government sort of keeps up with. So please link to some credible evidence that she did so or stop making this claim. Cruz was issued a US birth certificate at birth with no problems because his mother was an American citizen.

          • Zombie Nixon

Having a dual citizenship with Canada is not a problem for me. Amy another country it might.

          • Zombie Nixon

Yes Ted is a CITIZEN, but not a natural born citizen.

        • Zombie Nixon

Picture this The Republican National Convention.
Cruz wins the nomination. Hillary has been pounding Ted about his Canadian parents and his communist uncle.

Polls show Clinton leading in the polls 51-38

Ted Cruz asks Trump to speak at the convention.

          Trump give a great speech.

Everyone at the convention feels like they nominated the wrong guy.

The convention feels like 1976 RNC convention.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-p-Nuu8hYQ

I wonder if Ted’s parents were watching from Canada.

    Dignity.

  • JDShelnut

Everyday I think I have reached the limit on how much I could despise a person, and everyday Trump opens his fat mouth and proves me wrong.

    • Zombie Nixon

Yet you probably respect Cruz for LYING to people that Ben Carson dropped out.

      • Knitwit

Cruz didn’t LIE about it. One of his caucus-goers did. He had a lot of people caucusing for him. He is NOT responsible for the actions of ONE misguided person who may very well have been a plant from another caucus to make Cruz look bad. Cruz apologized to Carson, who graciously accepted because he knew he wasn’t going to come in first anyway. He did fantastic coming in 4th. What more do you want Cruz to do? Slit his wrists and bleed to death on the stage during his victory speech?? For crie

      • JDShelnut

What Cruz’s people said or didn’t say did not factor into my comment. I would like Trump to once, just for fun, act like an adult instead of like a boorish child.

  • MiguelLC

Donald Trump morphs into Al Gore. It is deja vu all over again.

  • http://www.unpczone.com Chris Carter

Do we have any states that still use paper? We’ll get the Hanging Chads nostalgia from Trump if we do.

  • Kelly

Seeing such asinine comments from a grown man are adding to my looming decision to ban myself from reading any news sites until the election.

  • tbmbuzz

Why is no one blaming CNN for reporting that Carson was suspending his campaign? They are the ones at fault, not Cruz!

    • http://youhavetobethistalltogoonthisride.blogspot.com/ keyboard jockey

Why isn’t anyone reporting that Ben Carson is Donald Trump’s stalking horse?

In modern political applications of the phrase, a stalking horse is either a candidate used to divert attention from someone else’s candidacy, or a candidate who splits the vote of a serious contender, perhaps unwittingly, and thus benefits a third, better-positioned candidate.

  • Dwayne Mountain Dew Camacho

Supposedly some Breitbart writer has been tweeting that he is about to break something big about Cruz in Iowa….he has been stringing it along for 2 days now though….

  • CrystalDawn0603

Awww, Twump is whining again. Throw in some foot stomping & we got us a show, folks!

  • Duane Savage

Trump couldn’t have possibly lost Iowa because of his tantrum throwing.. nope.

    • Elizabeth Bennett

Exactly, and Cruz couldn’t have possibly won because he ran an old-fashioned, boots-on-the-ground campaign that had him sore-footed and glad-handing in all 99 counties, while Trump flew in on his gilded jet saying preposterous patronizing things like, “I want Ivanka to have her baby here,” and embarrassingly throwing money into a communion plate while crashing a church service the day before the caucuses. Iowan conservatives are simply not that dumb.

      • j p✓ʳᵉᶠʳᶦᵉᵈ

And Cruz won without pandering to the ethanol subsides people like Trump did.

      • idalily

And Cruz actually thought showing up for a debate was important.

  • rodlang

I still can’t figure out if Cruz repeated an erroneous CNN story or if he embellished the CNN story. Either way, the fact is that Trump underperformed in Iowa. Carson does have a legit complaint since he was the victim of the erroneous story.

    • Mike Bittner

Oh puleeeze! Both of these men are crying over spilt milk, and you KNOW IT!

      • rodlang

Trump is overstating the case with his fraud comments.
The Cruz staffers ran with the story without an double-checking. Its not like Carson is going to be the nominee but Cruz could have corrected the record once he knew Carson was not dropping out.

  • Torcer

I could say that Trump has finally jumped the shark but I have no doubt he will come up something even more outrageous in about 15 minutes..

    • J-

Trump is a narcissist who can’t believe that he lost. Unfortunately Trump supporters have a tendency to be obnoxious loud mouths so Trump got a disproportionate amount of polling support and media coverage than actual voters backing him.

      • Torcer

What I don’t understand is how Trump supporters think that their attitude that mimics their candidate will win people over to their side..

        • J-

My guess is that they were all roadies fir schoolyard bullies. I know every time I’m called an idiot RINO by one of them I want to vote for Trump. /sarc/

          • Torcer

Yes, they seem to want to use the same methods as their candidate when mature reasoning should be the watchword.

This is why Trump is going to lose – while their attitude will turn more people away, more and more of his acolytes will also leave due to their distasteful methods.

    • sizemorew

Oh, he jumped the shark a long time ago. He’s doing a series of shark jumps.

Maybe he should team up with Bernie Sanders, since he’s complaining about the Iowa Caucus as well.

      • CrazyDaze✓veridicous

Bernie has a legitimate complaint. Recounts and lawsuits have been started for far less.

  • drPC

Trump is a sore loser? Who woulda thunk it?

  • http://wandererswaysite.wordpress.com Wanderer

I want to hear from at least three Carson voters in these caucuses who switched their votes from Carson to Cruz as a result of the story. Not folks who were on the fence or who were thinking about either or both, but supporters who truly jumped ship. Because if you’re going to take the word of another candidate’s staffers rather than wait for your guy to make his announcement, you really don’t sound like the kind of dedicated voter who shows up to a caucus in the first place.

I assume it’s safe to tell the Huckabee and Paul voters their candidates are out or do we have to ask The Don for permission first?

I’ve never been a Trump hater but this is pretty low.

  • Dan Abbett

So, this is how Donald Trump “loses gracefully.” He didn’t win so the election must have been a fraud. I hope people are paying attention to this “LOSER.” There is no way in hell he has the temperament or the trustworthiness to be president.

  • http://www.unpczone.com Chris Carter

Here’s the thing: we know how dirty the Clinton Machine is going to play. So if Cruz is playing dirty, isn’t that better than another Romney campaign where Obama goes for lowblows the entire race and he doesn’t want to sink to that level?

  • jhawk90

So…he gets across the board credit for the best post-caucus speech of the night, comes in second and has a commanding, YUGE lead in NH polling so…he goes scorched Earth on the dead horse that is now Iowa. Yeah that’ll work. What a tool.

    • vetgal1970

He is still beating the dead horse from the Aug debate

  • Quality

Carson outperformed the polls. That doesn’t indicate to me that Carson fans thought he had dropped out.

    • rodlang

Apparently, Mrs. Carson had to correct one of the Cruz staffers at a caucus precinct. Not the fraud claimed by Trump but the Cruz people jumped the gun with the story. Don’t simply trust CNN’s reporting.

      • idalily

Carson’s own actions didn’t help matters. He sank his own ship, IMO.

        • rodlang

Everyone knows Carson won’t be the nominee. Beware of the liberal MSM reporting, they enjoy stirring up trouble for the republicans and conservatives.

          • idalily

            Yep.

  • dabhidh

Trump is jealous of Hillary’s six coin-toss wins.

  • The_Original

Trump is anything but a gracious loser.

  • The_Original

I would gladly support Dr. Carson, but will only reluctantly vote for Trump if he is the last man standing.

    • jumper297

Not I… If my choice is between a mentally retarded liberal progressive, a potential felon, or a 74 year old lunatic socialist/communist I think I’ll just sit this one out since the results will be the same regardless.

  • maggieinWY

Trump should sue the media, since it was they who started the rumors in the first place. Easy enough to believe since everybody know Carson hasn’t got a chance at this point.

  • tamanator

Trump should file for “bankruptcy” now!

  • tbmbuzz

Funny, has anyone noticed how the fanatical, Trump is God comments from the Trumpistas seem to have dried up on this site in less than a week? ROTFL!

  • Inflazky1

  • Doug Sterling

Trump has a talent for creating the maximum of hatred with a minimum of words. The way he is “campaigning” the Republican nomination may not be worth much to anyone.

  • Hi This Is My Username

I’m planning to make sure to weed out all of the Trumpbots on my Twitter. I’m considering doing the same for the Rubio supporters. Both are completely bat sh*t crazy! I think I only follow one Cruz supporter, but he’s really nice and not acting like an unhinged loon. Even when someone says something bad about Cruz, he keeps his cool.

I need to follow more rational people. My mind has been blown away at how many people that used to think clearly, decided to became a rabid Trumpbot. A lot of people I followed on my old Twitter accounts aren’t worth following now. It’s insane.

  • Petrucio14

After the election which he lost, did anybody expect Trump to be gracious. Hell no! And once again he fails to disappoint.

  • keepyourpower

Actually, Ben Carson volunteers had been working, in Iowa, since January 2014..long before Carson said he would run…using the moniker Run! Ben! Run!..They worked very hard to get Ben Carson, to win the Iowa Caucus. He should have, at least, come in second…if it were not for the theft of votes. Trump is correct, Iowa should have to do a do over! I am not for Trump. I am for Carson. This is the second time another candidate has screwed over Carson, because they know he is a good Christian.
And both of those candidates claim to be great Christians! NOPE! The only good Christian in this race, is Ben Carson. He gets my vote, no matter what!
