Paul Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft and now environmental warrior, is in a little bit of hot water after his 300-foot yacht destroyed large parts of a coral reef in the Cayman Islands:

And we do mean destroyed. From Reuters:

An anchor chain from the vessel damaged nearly 14,000 square feet (1,300 square meters), or about 80 percent, of reef near two scuba diving sites in the West Bay, the islands’ environment department said, according to the Cayman News Service.

Allen’s Seattle-based Vulcan Inc organization, which manages his fortune, said on Wednesday that the M/V Tatoosh was moored on Jan. 14 in a “position explicitly directed” by the local port authority and that his team was cooperating with the investigation.

“When its crew was alerted by a diver that her anchor chain may have impacted coral in the area, the crew promptly, and on their own accord, relocated their position to ensure the reef was protected,” Vulcan said.

Allen, of course, is a climate alarmist who is really, really concerned about how humans are treating the environment:

Heh. Swim faster, whale! Before Paul Allen kills you with one of his mega-yachts!

Is that a hybrid yacht? How much fuel required to run a 300 foot yacht?

    • david4041

. . . and how about that helicopter on the back of the yacht?

That’s only “if you have to ask” price of the boat, whereas needing to ask “how much fuels it guzzles”…makes anyone still poorer and yet way less hypocritical than Polluto Allen.

This dude owns three mega-yachts, all registered in the Cayman Islands. Apparently he cares more about conservation than he does about paying taxes in the United States. I don’t subscribe to the mindset that rich people should pay more income tax than they’re already paying, but when they register numerous multi-million dollar luxury items out of the country in order to avoid paying taxes, I want them taxed on that. This yacht in the post is the Tatoosh valued at $160 million dollars. Keep in mind, he has two more.

    • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

No one needs 3 mega yachts. ? Just ask Bernie Sanders.

      • Michelle ✓classified

I actually don’t mind anyone owning countless mega-yachts (this dude also owns two Boeing 757s), but I have major issues with these billionaires who register these mega-million toys in other countries so they avoid taxes here.

        • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy! #GoBolts!

I concur 100%. They preach higher taxes for us but they work very very hard to avoid paying them themselves, those hypocritical a**holes.

          • Michelle ✓classified

And they preach the rich need to pay their “fair share” of taxes, but register their toys out of the country.
