We’re seeing media reports this morning that Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar, wanted by the U.S. since 9/11 for sheltering Osama bin Laden, died over two years ago from tuberculosis:
From USA Today:
Mullah Omar, the reclusive supreme leader of the Afghan Taliban, has died, local media, the BBC and the Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune reported Wednesday, citing Afghan officials.
The Express Tribune said a former Afghan Taliban minister and current leadership council member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told it that Omar died two years and four months ago from Tuberculosis.
The ex-minister added that Omar’s son had identified the body, and that he was buried in Afghanistan, the paper reported.
As Omar has been reported dead before, let’s hope this time it’s true.
Update. Why are we just finding out now then?
