As we write this post, people who think Memories Pizza was wronged have raised over $500,000 through GoFundMe, an online fundraising platform.
But many on Twitter think the owners of Indiana’s most infamous pizzeria are participating in some sort of “scam” or “con” on gullible Christians and is using their now public thoughts on gay marriage to rake in the dough (sorry!):

@gofundme memories pizza fund raising is an affront. Scam and a con. Bankruptcy. Shut it down

So #MemoriesPizza closed down due to threats and has now had nearly half a million dollars raised on their behalf.
Damn that's a good con.

All and all looks like Memories Pizza is 500K to the good. Which is a lot of pizza. Gotta love a good con job.#MemoriesPizza

Good con idea: Tell conservatives you wont serve gays for religious purposes, then set up a gofundme page! #BoycottIndiana #MemoriesPizza

Even Esquire writer and verified tweeter Dave Holmes thinks it was one big “grift”:
If you were wondering why a pizzeria would make a public stand on catering a gay wedding: their GoFundMe page has raised $250K & counting.

To review: they publicly withheld a service nobody asked for, closed down due to threats they won't specify, and are raking in donations.

In short, this is one faith-based, cynical grift, and we all got took.

This is such a simple con, why aren’t more businesses doing it?
