Rep. Eric Swalwell, who is running for the Democrat Party’s 2020 presidential nomination, is swinging for the gun control fences in an attempt to win over the lefty base. Swalwell’s latest move has been a pledge to institute a mandatory buyback for any guns he considers too scary to be privately owned. Those refusing to cooperate would be jailed, according to Swalwell:
Good news! Eric Swalwell no longer wants to nuke defiant ‘assault weapon’ owners (just throw them in prison instead) https://t.co/smr5qujMgg

I’m the only candidate that’s proposing we ban and buyback the 15 million assault weapons on our streets.@UNLVYoungDems pic.twitter.com/2sFaOU5wZD

Swalwell later tried to explain further to an “NRA Twitter that’s losing its mind” (which was actually conservative Twitter mocking his ridiculous plan):
NRA Twitter is losing its mind with “how is Swalwell going to take guns from law-abiding owners.” SPOILER: I’m not. I’m organizing with the Moms & students, and we’re going to CHANGE the law. Weapons of war will be no more. #BanandBuyBack #EndGunViolence

But you know Swalwell’s campaign is in trouble when even something that radical doesn’t go far enough for some, including Vox’s criminal justice, guns & drugs correspondent:
This tweet makes zero sense. https://t.co/HKaKIJGvjV

Anyway, it's fine to ban certain guns and take them away. Other countries have done that and seen fewer gun deaths as a result. New Zealand is doing it right now.

So what should be done?
The real problem here is the suggestion we should only do this with assault weapons. It'd be better if we did it with all semiautomatic weapons (including, especially, handguns).

Gee, what could possibly go wrong?
? I hope you are prepared to be disappointed

Progressives aren’t exactly known for their prowess in thinking things through.
By “we” I’m sure you don’t mean you personally. You & your man-bag wouldn’t get past the first name on your list. #dreamon #nevergonnahappen #2A #manbag

For everyone who says Vox hasn't accomplished much, a reminder that they managed to find AND hire another person as stupid as Matt Yglesias: https://t.co/LDNhUmlyFg

Opens bio- “oh, Vox. Makes perfect sense now”.
