California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is running in hopes of being elected the state’s next governor in November, has some thoughts about “basic human rights”:
Food to feed your family.
Healthcare that doesn’t bankrupt you.
An education that prepares you for the future.
An affordable, safe place to call home.
These should not be outlandish ideas.
These should be basic human rights.

Many called BS on Newsom:
All could be provided by the free market. They're not rights. It isn't the government's job to provide any of these things. Please stop with this idiocy. It's unbearable. https://t.co/maZNsMcADv

No, basic human rights don't require work from other people, except in the case of children requiring to be cared for by their parents. These aren't even basic human requirements for survival. https://t.co/xJIbBWXSJ4

At some point, you run out of other people’s money.
That’s when you turn to forced labor at the point of a gun. https://t.co/oFl0L9juwj

If food, health care, education, and housing are all "basic human rights," what business do farmers, medical professionals, educators, and construction workers/property owners have charging for those things? Everything for the state, everything from the state. https://t.co/drTHgJtALS

I'm sorry, but these are not rights. Yes, we should as a society strive to make them all norms, but they are not rights. A basic right would be something that is yours and relies on no one else. Your right to think, to speak, to defend yourself, to pursue happiness, etc. https://t.co/r80RMSKb8P

As with many California progressive politicians, some priority problems were spotted:
My city is awash in needles and feces.
People can't afford to live here.
I support raising taxes on the young and working people.
We're mired in poverty and inequality.
Our schools suck.
Let's keep doing what we've been doing, but more. https://t.co/03bVZBkshe

Please clean the human feces and dirty needles off the sidewalks first. https://t.co/7mOSUG8qw2

The city Newsom used to be mayor of has it covered:

But they’ve got the plastic straw problem handled, thanks in no small part to the high priorities set by state progressives like Newsom.
