California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is running in hopes of being elected the state’s next governor in November, has some thoughts about “basic human rights”:
Clean air.
Clean water.
Food to feed your family.
Healthcare that doesn’t bankrupt you.
An education that prepares you for the future.
An affordable, safe place to call home.
These should not be outlandish ideas.
These should be basic human rights.

Many called BS on Newsom:

No, basic human rights don't require work from other people, except in the case of children requiring to be cared for by their parents. These aren't even basic human requirements for survival. https://t.co/xJIbBWXSJ4

At some point, you run out of other people’s money.
That’s when you turn to forced labor at the point of a gun. https://t.co/oFl0L9juwj— Flyover Rube (@jswilt) August 15, 2018
If food, health care, education, and housing are all "basic human rights," what business do farmers, medical professionals, educators, and construction workers/property owners have charging for those things? Everything for the state, everything from the state. https://t.co/drTHgJtALS

As with many California progressive politicians, some priority problems were spotted:
Translation:
My city is awash in needles and feces.
People can't afford to live here.
I support raising taxes on the young and working people.
We're mired in poverty and inequality.
Our schools suck.
Let's keep doing what we've been doing, but more. https://t.co/03bVZBkshe

The city Newsom used to be mayor of has it covered:

But they’ve got the plastic straw problem handled, thanks in no small part to the high priorities set by state progressives like Newsom.
