Former interim DNC chair and CNN contributor Donna Brazile was fired from the cable news network after admitting that she leaked a town hall question to the Hillary Clinton campaign. Vox’s Matt Yglesias and Politico Magazine’s Blake Hounshell are arguing that it isn’t fair to lay the blame on CNN:
For all this endless harping on Donna Brazile and the debate questions, what happened is that CNN fired her for breaking the rules.

Right. "CNN" didn't leak debate questions. Donna Brazile leaked one debate question, and was cut loose for it. https://t.co/BRoYwNnhMZ

… also, it was a town hall, and Brazile was fed a question about water quality in Flint from someone at a CNN partner, TV One. https://t.co/QJwv5loD7K

Well then, is this a more accurate way to put it?
CNN's Donna Brazile leaked debate questions. https://t.co/nzM7QqqIzL

Had a Fox News contributor been fired after getting exposed for leaking a debate question to a GOP candidate it’s unlikely any media figures would make a similar argument:
Donna Brazile worked for CNN when she leaked, so… https://t.co/949sFNxwWV

CNN employee fired by CNN. Keep spinning it, Larry. Keep eating Trump's exhaust. https://t.co/HmP78hTbVW

Donna Brazile worked for CNN which means CNN leaked the debate questions you insufferable hack.
What's worse is Clinton camp said nothing! https://t.co/4IvITmikYy

Um …. Exactly how does "cut loose for it" help your argument than she didn't work for #CNN again? https://t.co/rmaZW6GyZ9

Whose payroll was Brazile on at the time again? Oh yeah, it was @CNN's. https://t.co/NM4rTTTLt6
