At the end of last night’s Democrat debate, moderator Rachel Maddow gave hugs to both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton:

What started as a brawl ends in a hug. #DemDebate

Was it a first?
Rachel Maddow embraces both Clinton and Sanders at end of debate. I don't think I've ever seen a moderator do that before.

Considering it was a Dem debate being broadcast on MSNBC, maybe it’s not too surprising a moderator leaned forward for a couple of hugs from the candidates:
I think there was a big kiss in the outtakes of the Candy Crowley debate in 2012. https://t.co/7kyWBmsDYw

@brithume there's a reason you've never seen that. It's not journalistically appropriate.

But not surprisingly, others saw no problem with it:

Watching Hillary Clinton hug Rachel Maddow at the end of the #DemDebate made my heart swell.
