Former President Jimmy Carter weighed in on the GOP race, saying he prefers Donald Trump over Ted Cruz:

Trump wasn’t running away from Carter’s nod when asked about it today:

The Cruz campaign is already all over Carter’s comments:

          • John Galt

Uh…just barely. There’s a misconception that he was a “nuke officer”. He wasn’t, he never finished nuke propulsion school. He taught nuke theory to the burgeoning nuke fleet officers, but never qualified himself.

I’m not suggesting that he was not capable or sharp enough, but to nuke sailors, both officers and enlisted, becoming qualified is a point of pride and a big distinction, as opposed to someone who was stationed aboard a sub, but never fully qualified. I qualified in 1981, USS Bluefish, SSN675

This is the first time in almost 40 years that Jimmy Carter has been right, and the insult sailed right over Trump’s head…..

    • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy!

      And you’re surprised by that because….? 😉

      • Jesse B. Hammer

What is the surprise (uh-well-Not at all surprising to me) is how Rush Limbaugh just discovered (per Guy-B’s tweet) that Dems see Trump as ideologically malleable. THIS coming from the “king of-talk-radio” who (until weeks ago) was on the bandwagon of “Trump-as-conserv-savior-from-the-GOPe[YAWn]” and is now (I’m sure) blaming the GOPe[YAWn] for foisting Trump on us. THIS incredible (as in NOT credible) coming from the same talk-radio titanics who’ve bemoaned how the boogeyman GOPe (YAWn) has held back BOTH Trump AND Cruz (“AND” as if DT & TC were a Siamese twin whose whole body is conjoined below the neck). Only NOW does Rush discover what some of us suspected about DT all along? Seriously? It’s is why I stopped listening to talk-radio: they aren’t even trying to affirm their listeners’ core beliefs anymore, but rather are pandering for ratings. Must be really sad to watch these folks’ credibility melt down.

        • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy!

I said the same thing about Rush a few weeks ago and people were trying to convince me that I was wrong. I think Rush was talking nice about DT in part because he doesn’t want to lose access to Trump’s golf courses, but… 🙂

          • Karla1953

I do not listen to talk radio for the same reason I do not of the norm view evening cable shows that are opinion driven………..1)I have my own opinions and can form new ones and 2)matters not the side everyone’s own agenda worms it way into things(not saying that is bad it is what it is)and then another opinion that is not mine is launched LOL

          • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy!

My Dad listened to Rush way back when he started and I’ve been listening off and on for years. I’ve about had it with him. Chris Plante is funny and I enjoy his show. Derek Hunter on WBAL at noon is good, too. Rush OTOH… He’s gotten very disappointing. Lately, though, I don’t even listen to much of his monologue. I’ve been streaming music on my computer or I’ll listen to Hunter’s show for a bit as he’s a snarky little devil. Rush is.. not the same anymore.

          • Karla1953

Oh I know many that do it has just never been in my things to do LOL/I mostly go the music route if I am home during the day and always music in the car 🙂

          • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy!

When the kids are in the car, I like to sing along with 5SOS, 1D, or Taylor Swift, especially if their friends are with us. That’s always fun. Teenaged girls love it when Mom sings their fave songs poorly. 🙂

          • Karla1953

I am much older than you so my song selection singing was different but mine knew I never knew the words(did I say I am also tone deaf LOL)so she knew just when to take the volume down. Tee Hee

          • http://wandererswaysite.wordpress.com Wanderer

The closest thing I heard Rush say to defending The Don has been essentially telling people to tone it down and figure out where the Trump phenomenon came from rather than attack it tooth and nail. I’m no Trump man but neither is Rush, but he gets accused of being in the Trump camp mostly because he doesn’t appear to hate Trump enough.

          • Penny✓ItsSoFluffy!

While I agree that he has frequently defended Donald Dork and (to a much lesser extent) Cruz, the impression I get is that he’s kinda cool with the DT campaign. Some of my friends have said the same thing. I dunno. I just got so fed up with the defense of the NY loudmouth I had to turn it all off. But that’s just me FWIW. Simply one person’s opinion. 🙂

          • http://wandererswaysite.wordpress.com Wanderer

That’s fair. I don’t need to stick up for Rush, he’s a big boy. I’m certainly capable of engaging in selective hearing–I know from the beginning I’ve been saying pounding on Trump isn’t the way to beat him, but rather learning from him and figuring out what created the Trump phenomenon. Which of course no one did, although it does look like Ted Cruz at least tried to. I won’t deny that I may be hearing what I want to hear out of Rush.

          • NCMountainGirl

Rush knows his audience. He also knows that when people have drunk the Kool Aid it is pointless to confront them. They have to be carefully and obliquely steered back on course.

        • whatev…✓ yo’self.

I KnOw you would LIKE IT if RUSH bashed REPubliCANS in PRIMARY races, BUT!! He TRIES not to. He USUALLY stands up for REPubliCANS who are BEing bashed BY the Media (And that Includes (YAWn) DT)).. NOT Openly criticizing our OWN CANdidate, is NOT-the-SAME-as ENDORSING him, or BEING on his BANDWAGon!!.

          • Jesse B. Hammer

FIRST off, IN CASE YOU’RE trying to RIDICULE my use of CAPS, you’re SCREWING IT UP because I DON’T use both CAPS and lowercase IN THE SAME WORD. (“GOPe” ISN’T a WORD but rather an abbreviation that YOU Indy-Cons (not I) MADE UP…which is why I deliberately write the WORD “yawn” as “YAWn”, to SHOW how PARANOID YOU people are about “unicorn-like fictional ESTABLISHMENT.) WhoTF SAID I “wanted” RUSH to bash Repubs EVER? What Rush DOES is BASH the NOMINEE for BEING HIMSELF rather than Reagan-INCARNATE…which is WHY it’s RUSH’s & TALK-RADIO’s FAULT that OBAMA WON TWICE since MILLIONS of INDY-CON voters STAYED HOME or VOTED 3P in BOTH 2008 & 2012, thus SPLITTING the ANTI-Obama vote. What RUSH HAS ALSO DONE FOR MONTHS is to SPLIT HIS LISTENERS’ support of the REAL Ted Cruz by ENDORSING-YES-ENDORSING Donald Trump as the AntiEstab SAVIOR, thus not only falling for Trump’s FAKE ACT but UNDERCUTTING the support for the REAL “ANTI-EST.” TED CRUZ. Rush HASN’T JUST been “not criticizing Trump”; he’s been CARRYING TRUMP’s WATER even while most of the REST OF US knew MONTHS AGO that TRUMP is a FRAUD…IN OTHER WORDS, Rush MIGHT AS WELL have endorsed Trump, because THERE’s NO sane reason why RUSH would ONLY NOW DISCOVER that TRUMP is a CHUMP. I’ll SAY IT AGAIN: Nobody needs Rush to affirm our beliefs anymore, SO NOW Rush is PANDERING for the RATINGS and a NEW CONTRACT whereas he’s totally become INcredible AS IN literally NOT Credible.

    • LinTaylor ✓vitrified

Trump’s like the Pointy-Haired Boss from Dilbert: if you couch your insults the right way (like saying “With all due respect…” first), he’s too stupid to realize he’s being insulted.

  • tops116 ✓Quipper

Bragging about Jimmy Carter preferring him to Cruz? Doesn’t sound like the actions of an anti-establishment conservative–the very thing Trumpbots keep making Donald out to be.

Well, at least Trump has a solid conservative record to–oh, right, he’s a lifelong liberal… which explains Carter’s preference here.

    • Paul V

Not to mention “he’s malleable”, which means he has no true beliefs, just whatever belief the moment calls for.

      • MoxieLouise1

I’m beginning to believe all politicians are malleable. And he IS a politician now.

        • Tyrconnell

He’s always been a politician, he just hadn’t stood fore office (except the last time he ran [independent] for president) before.

    • Jesse B. Hammer

Yep, and until just today (per Guy Benson’s tweet), Rush Limbaugh had been one of those TrumpBots. Not that Guy’s tweet acknowledges this incredible [as in NOT credible] turnabout by Rush, since Rush is somehow “never wrong”…My point is, how did it take this long for Rush to jump off the DT-bandwagon and realize (about DT) what many of us have suspected since DT’s 6/2/2015 kickoff speech won the Oscy-award for “Best Over-Actor”?

Not really… Daddy gave him a big boost, he lost most of it, was able to keep some while his employees were out of a job, and now he’s a reality TV “tycoon.” I read an interesting stat somewhere that if he’d taken Fredrick Trump’s money and just invested it in the market he’d have more than he does now, so in a roundabout way he hasn’t made much.

Trump was not highly regarded by the real estate developers I had as clients. On rap on him was that his projects often depended on a specific prime site that he would telegraph his interest in. Thus he often ended up paying too much.. That was at the heart of at least one of the bankruptcies.

Let’s unpack: Neo-Nazis on Twitter openly support him (and Trump is all-too happy to re-tweet them), users at the Breitbart message boards let the anti-Semitic slurs fly when a site story accused Free Beacon’s Michael Goldfarb of being anti-Trump, and now support from a guy with noted anti-Israel rhetoric.

Quite a coalition you’re building there, Trump.

  • http://truthbeforedishonor.wordpress.com John Hitchcock

I love that Cruz ad. It’s absolute proof that some ads really do write themselves. They didn’t do anything but run what Carter, the second-worst president in history, said. That’s it. Nothing else. And that ad will be a huge winner, helping Cruz and harming Trump.

And for Trump to praise Carter, of all people, shows Trump is not the anti-establishment person his idolators think he is.

  • Hashtag pundit

Well, Carter is right: Trump IS malleable. Trump doesn’t seem to understand that being called “malleable” and being endorsed by one of the worst presidents in history are both bad things.

Carter’s a true believer. I’m not sure what he believes in, since he’s an anti-Semite (and not overly high on blacks, either) and Jesus was and still is a Jew, but he’s a true believer in whatever he believes and says.
