In Paris, France, two masked gunmen killed 12 people at the office of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine that in 2012 published a series of cartoons featuring Muhammad. In 2011, Charlie Hebdo published a “spoof issue” guest edited by Muhammad, after which their Paris office was firebombed. There are reports that the killers yelled “Allahu Akbar” during their rampage. For White House spokesman Josh Earnest, that was apparently not enough to establish motivation for the horrible act of terrorism:
