South St. Louis residents took to the streets last night after an 18-year-old black male was shot and killed by an off-duty St. Louis police officer who was working security for a private firm at the time. Some claimed the man who was shot was holding a sandwich which was mistaken for a gun. However, the St. Louis Police Chief said the man not only had a gun, but fired at the off-duty officer.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, who seems to enjoy fanning the flames in these kinds of tense situations, eyed something that could escalate the situation:
@STLAbuBadu if they're lying about the gun that is a *massive* scandal

And what does it mean if police are not lying about the gun?
