Eight people are now confirmed dead in a house fire in Charleston early Saturday morning.
According to several media outlets, the fire started before 3:30 a.m. in a two-story house on Arlington Avenue. Firefighters reported that a children’s slumber party was taking place at the house.
Reports are that Bob Sharp, assistant fire chief for the Charleston Fire Department, has confirmed that two adults and six children were among those who died. The children were reportedly under the age of 8.
Another adult and a child were taken to a local hospital.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
