Joe Torre rejoins MLB as executive vice president

From Facebook:

Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that Joe Torre has rejoined Major League Baseball as Executive Vice President for Baseball Operations.

Torre had resigned from his position on January 4th to explore opportunities with a group that participated in the bidding for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The position was left vacant after his resignation, filled in the interim by Senior Vice Presidents Kim Ng, Joe Garagiola, Jr., and Peter Woodfork, all of whom reported to Torre.

Commissioner Selig said: “I am pleased that Joe shared our enthusiasm about returning to Major League Baseball. It was appropriate for him to step away while he looked into a unique opportunity, and now we are delighted to welcome him back to a position in which he thrived. Joe is an accomplished baseball man, a remarkable communicator and a great asset to our efforts to improve our game and to serve the 30 Clubs.”

Torre said: “I am very excited to come back to the Commissioner’s Office. This is a great era for Major League Baseball, and it’s an honor to work with the Commissioner and to play a part in the game’s future. Collectively, we will continue to examine ways that we can make baseball better for our fans, Clubs and players.”

Torre originally joined Major League Baseball in February of 2011, overseeing areas that include Major League Operations, Umpiring, On-Field Operations and On-Field Discipline. In the capacity to which he is returning, Torre serves as the Office of the Commissioner’s primary liaison to the general managers and field managers of the 30 Major League Clubs regarding all baseball and on-field matters
