The New Orleans Saints and the NFL in general have taken a lot of heat over the past few days for running bounty programs that reward players for intentionally hurting opponents. According to former NBA players Charles Barkley and Cedric Maxwell, teams instituted similar bounty programs on the hardwood too.
In a perfect world everyone would play by the rules. Unfortunately, in this day and age everyone is looking for a competitive advantage even if that means hitting an opposing player with a cheap shot just to knock him out of the game. However, there’s a fine line between trying to hurt another player and trying to injure another player.
When athletes are intentionally trying to end their opponent’s careers, that’s when the line is crossed.
