We’re pretty sure Dan Rather knows that the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary are the first two for the Democratic candidates, so they themselves have been spending time with voters whom you might find in a country diner.
Rather has a favor to ask of his fellow journalists, though: When seeking out “average voters” for a story, try to get out of those country diners and find people in large, urban areas.
A friendly reminder to some of my colleagues in the press: when doing stories on "average voters,” let's seek to have that phrase accurately represent the increasingly urban and diverse reality of the America of 2019 and not only the people you find in country diners.

the media needs to break out of its bubble and listen to urban voters https://t.co/s3SpsmlZAH

They really need to get out of flyover country and talk to the folks in New York City and Washington, D.C. for a change.
You can't be serious, are you?
Do you even watch the news?
Watch for one night and tell me how many stories there are about rural locations compared to urban.
Open every major newspaper or site in the country and tell me how many are lead with rural headlines. https://t.co/aKJ7CSBWKj— Andrew Koster (@AndrewKoster) December 16, 2019

A friendly reminder to Dan Rather that "country diners" are increasingly diverse and sophisticated. They're filling up with people who are done with urban elites writing them off as unsophisticated and stupid. https://t.co/jxM8wfJZe4

The people found in the small village country diners are usually the ones who feel very strongly that they are invisible in DC and have felt that way a long time. https://t.co/Ptqpxoa1pp

And this is the only time that Democratic presidential candidates pretend that they give a damn about them.
If you want to know why #TRUMP2020Landside will happen just look at the comments section of @DanRather tweet. The arrogance. https://t.co/ZnOYPbW08j

It’s pretty amazing how little the diverse, urban elite think of the toothless illiterates named Cletus who frequent these country diners. They might be in for another surprise in 2020.
