As Twitchy reported Tuesday evening, a student opened fire in a classroom at the University of North Carolina’s Charlotte campus, killing two students and injuring four others as they were giving their final presentations.
We haven’t publicized the name or photo of the alleged gunman, but we’re honored to name one of the victims who sacrificed his life in an attempt to stop the shooter.

Chief Putney says the first and foremost hero is Riley Howell. Putney says Howell having no place to run or hide, fought the assailant. Without his work, the suspect may not have been disarmed.

In what I can imagine as one of the scariest moments of his life, Riley Howell thought of the others in the room and tried to prevent more loss of life. Wow. Don’t ever forget his name or his incredibly brave act in his final moments of life. https://t.co/1No2pB8OxD

Riley Howell was killed while trying to jump and disarm the UNC gunman.
This is the face we should all remember, not the shooters. https://t.co/ls9kpq9YBm

I’m crying. For the record his name was Riley Howell, a junior majoring in environmental studies.

We can’t help but seethe at the thought of the school resource officer assigned to protect the student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland who hid outside the school building while the shooting was going on, while this student rushed the gunman to help save lives.
