The thing is, if South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg wasn’t a gay man, CNN nor anyone else would have covered his announcement Wednesday that he’s running for president in 2020. But he is gay and he’s married, so his announcement in a field of 54 Democratic candidates, all with a better chance of winning, is “a big deal.”
A married gay man is running for president. That's a big deal. | Analysis by CNN's Kyle Blaine https://t.co/c4hf5wkS66 pic.twitter.com/cqhjKidvox

So why is it a big deal?
If it was, you wouldn't have to tell us, would you? ?
— (((L.N. Smithee))) (@LNSmithee) January 23, 2019
And by big deal you mean a publicity stunt, yawn…….

Does he have other qualifications?
— Lara (@Lara74608256) January 23, 2019
So his only qualification is that he’s gay? Got it
— Johnny Wang (@johnnywang94) January 23, 2019
Is that reason to vote for him though?

Identity politics 24 hours a day. Is his being gay MORE important than the policies he’s advocating for? NO.

So! What are his policies and stances to the issues? If some country or leader doesn’t respect him because of who he sleeps with or is married to, send a straight cabinet member as a liaison and keep it moving.

Why would someones sexual preference be a big deal like, EVER? Socialist nonsense. Collectivism is a sign of low intelligence.

I give zero craps who someone legally bumps uglies with. Stop it.

It’s a “big deal” because of the PC narrative behind that story. When I was 13, I was bitten by a rattlesnake on the edge of a tobacco field. It’s a miracle that I survived. If I decided to run for Prez, would I get “first snake attack survivor” praise from CNN? If not, why?

If you can’t be bothered to even name him in a headline, he’ll have a lower chance than Chester Cheetah.
— Rosa (@rebellions) January 23, 2019
i cannot respond, i am too busy LMFAO at the absurdity of it all

I thought we were all supposed to be treated equally. Why is this getting more attention over a married straight guy running? What happened to equality?

Now let’s watch CNN totally drop its coverage of this guy. Kamala Harris already has her CNN forum scheduled; when does Pete Buttigieg get his town hall with Jake Tapper?

Update:
This guy really does have a serious name recognition problem; to Reuters, he’s just “gay Indiana mayor”:
