First, you have to understand two things: A. New York Times columnist Ross Douthat isn’t looking for someone as clueless as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez but rather someone young and dynamic, and B. this person will never, ever get the media attention that she does.
Serious Q inspired by @Ocasio2018: Is there any young conservative politician with a significant following? Anyone who genuinely excites the very-online or the grassroots right?

We thought it was pretty obvious, but you go first:

Seriously, though:
Closest thing would be Ben Shapiro

Actually, we had this guy in mind:

Ah yes!

Philip Wegmann of the Washington Examiner didn’t just tweet his answer to Douthat; he wrote a piece addressing this exact question:

Republicans don't need their own version of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. They have Dan Crenshaw https://t.co/JeUkB08ty8

He’s a star. With awesome comic timing.

Right. Compare how Crenshaw has handled insult to Ocasio-Cortez. Shrugged it off, denounced rage-mobs and victimhood culture.
AOC thrives off righteous indignation. Everyday it's a new grievance.
Both of these things play to their respective bases. https://t.co/VSppwYT4cw

Maybe I make too much of it. But does feel like a fault line between political cultures. I loved Crenshaw's calm and cool reaction, refusal to fuel fires of divisiveness. So did most conservatives.
But AOC's base loves the way she swings at power structures (blindly, imho).
— John Noonan (@noonanjo) December 13, 2018
What does that say about leftists and the democratic base? They're whining cry-bullies. Meanwhile, Crenshaw is honorable, level-headed, and forgiving.

The difference is like night and day. Crenshaw is “self-confident” based on great humility and his past training and experience. AOC is “Arrogant” based on her using her newly appointed power and status to conceal her incredible incompetence.

I like what I see so far with Crenshaw. I think he could be a big part of the future of the GOP. Time will tell.
— Chris Lair (@cwlair) December 13, 2018
Crenshaw is the one to watch. I have high hopes for him.

We do too.
