Hang on, it looks like we might have written the headline to this piece without consulting the latest guidance from the AP and other authorities. Perhaps it should read, “Undocumented immigrant refugee father detained by ICE, which many seek to abolish.”
Anyway, here’s how CBS News put it:
Samuel Oliver-Bruno, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, sought refuge in a North Carolina church for 11 months. Then he was detained during a scheduled appointment with immigration officials https://t.co/JzvZsX1QOE pic.twitter.com/EwmSjvlhhF

Nope, looks like we got it right the first time: illegal alien detained by ICE.
What has people up in arms is that Samuel Oliver-Bruno was detained during a scheduled appointment with immigration officials. CBS News reports:
The advocacy group Alerta Migratoria NC said in a statement that Oliver-Bruno went to have fingerprints taken so he could apply to stay in North Carolina with his wife and son. He has been living in CityWell United Methodist Church in Durham since late 2017 to avoid the reach of immigration officers, who generally avoid making arrests at churches and other sensitive locations.
ICE detained him when he went to be fingerprinted? That’s cold.
they fail to say he was wanted by the law enforement

Oh, that.
ICE said Oliver-Bruno, who has lived in North Carolina for two decades, had no legal basis to be in the U.S. and had exhausted his “extensive” appeals. Oliver-Bruno pleaded guilty in 2014 to using false documents to try to re-enter the U.S. in Texas after a trip outside the country, according to court documents.
So he wasn’t undocumented, technically; it’s just that his documents were fake.
You mean convicted illegal caught trying to enter US with forged documents. Entitled criminal who thinks he doesn’t need to follow rules to enter. Send him back.

You forgot to mention he was also a convicted criminal.#FakeNewsMedia https://t.co/ZzpObYW4rS

An illegal immigrant from anywhere should be detained. A job well done by ICE enforcing the law.

Arrest the pastor for harboring a fugitive and obstruction of justice!

There is no sanctuary . Just CBS trying to make a story where it is not . #cbsisfakenews

Don’t come here illegally, don’t get deported. There is a legal process to get here with many waiting patiently in line. Some of the best Americans I know were immigrants from Ethiopia, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and they all did so legally. Now they are more American than most

Ok, now it's time for Mr. Bruno to go through a legal process of migration. If the fear of facing violence in Veracruz is legitimate, and it very well may be, put in an Asylum claim. Now he can join society legally without fear of deportation, and in the meantime begin working.
