As we mentioned earlier, this weekend is the Netroots Nation gathering in New Orleans, and Sen. Kamala Harris was there, almost certainly laying the groundwork for a 2020 run.
Politico noted that Harris took offense at the use of the term “identity politics,” saying that “its purpose is to minimize and marginalize issues that impact all of us. It is used to try and shut us up.”
The last thing we want is for Harris to shut up, and we hope she takes away from Netroots the idea that she needs to move even further left if she wants a chance to climb the ladder from senator to president. That said, we’ll keep using the term, OK?
Sen. Kamala Harris accused critics of “identity politics” of weaponizing the term to diminish issues of race, gender and sexual orientation https://t.co/4sYzXXY45b

Harris even tweeted a follow up to the Politico story:
We won’t be silent about race. We won’t be silent about sexual orientation. We won’t be silent about immigrants rights. These are the very issues that define our identity as Americans.https://t.co/KBRJ5aGYlr

Trust us, we believe you. Just keep on doing what you’re doing.
That's a relief. No one ever talks about these things. https://t.co/VwLY7IL2U9

If you see everything through the narrow, divisive lens of identity politics and think these are "the very issues that define" us as Americans, then you have no understanding of or appreciation for the American experiment, American exceptionalism, or Americans ourselves.
— Mark Tapson (@MarkTapson) August 4, 2018
I’m just glad she’s talking about these things. No one else is doing that. She’s kind of heroic and bold.
— Michael Hausam (@MPHaus) August 4, 2018
I know, right? Literally no one else in this country is talking about race and immigration.
— Mark Tapson (@MarkTapson) August 4, 2018
Shocking, it's literally all you talk about.
You divide people into physical identities and then try to scare them so they'll vote for you.
You're cynical and basic.

Leftists using identity politics accusing their morally superior opposition of identity politics.

With all due respect Senator. The constitution is what defines us as Americans. And patriots will not be silent about our constitution. You will get the message loud and clear in November. #RedWaveRising #WalkAwayFromDemocrats #LiberalismIsAMentalDisease

Where you see race, I see Americans. Where you see sexual orientation, I see Americans. Where you see immigration, I see legal Americans. As a naturalized citizen, I see you as someone pandering for votes at the expense of all legal American citizens.

America is the freest, fairest country on the planet. Try finding our equality of opportunity anywhere else in the world. 20% of the WORLD'S immigrants live here! Identity politics as practiced by most today are toxic. They prioritize disconnection over connection & understanding
— SailingGirl73 (@sailinggirl73) August 4, 2018
I could've sworn it was being American that defines our identity as Americans. https://t.co/Qn7SVgCc2N
— Varad Mehta (@varadmehta) August 4, 2018
Wrong. My race and sexual orientation do not define my identity as an American. My love for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness do. https://t.co/aHDG8Dh8i1
— Miguel A Granda (@MiguelAGranda) August 4, 2018
Your issues: Race, sex, illegal migrants.
Our issues: The economy, jobs, growth, failing education, crime and public safety, our rights and individual opportunity. We are not identities. We are Americans!
— ❌Don'tTrustRusskies♿️ (@jefoster_) August 4, 2018
Well said. I would say 98% of conservative Patriots couldn’t give a flying flip about race, or identity. Has always been about Freedom, Constitutional rights and law and order. #WalkAway
— Nw2Mw (@Nw2Mw) August 4, 2018
Actually I don't care about anyone's race, their sexual orientation and support LEGAL immigrants' rights. How about unemployment, crime in inner cities, wasteful government spending etc.? Those are the issues one would think you should focus on.
— A H Ongun (@hunterongun) August 4, 2018
These are the issues which define and circumscribe the Democrats' petty tribal politics. America deserves adults with bigger and bolder visions to hold office.

Our platform as the Democratic Party is IDENTITY POLITICS FOR ALL!!! The only way to make a functional society is for everyone to separate themselves by their various immutable characteristics! https://t.co/ZVqj8djMh2

Poor Kamala, clinging to her desperate hopes of being the 2020 nominee. She’ll take any of the spotlight she can get, but she constantly says these ridiculous things. @realDonaldTrump would crush her in 2020.
— Adam Broadfoot❌ (@ajbroadfoot) August 4, 2018
Good grief. This obsession over identity politics is going to get Trump elected.
Dems are filled with activists rather than people who can run a country. https://t.co/OKCQt5NhLv
