The last time we checked in on Kathy Griffin, she was still playing the victim in the incident where she posed for a photo, ISIS-style, with a prop of President Trump’s bloody, severed head. Trump, you see, drew attention to the stunt to distract from “his bad news of the day,” possibly James Comey’s firing.
That was late December, and now Griffin’s on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter telling the same story again. Writer Seth Abramovitch notes that the “comic in exile” is to be found either arriving for lunch in a glittering black Maserati or holed up in her Bel Air mansion, depending on when you catch her. (“Over these past eight months, Griffin’s fuck-you house has become her fuck-you fortress. Or perhaps her fuck-you prison,” Abramovitch writes.)
The interview is available online, but journalist Yashar Ali pulled a quote from the piece that we think demands a fact-check.
Kathy Griffin on the cover of @THR. Jimmy Kimmel says, “She didn't hurt anyone, she is one of the funniest people in the world. She'll be bigger than ever." https://t.co/TyTo8Hkluj pic.twitter.com/Qmr8PdkhIx

America’s conscience, Jimmy Kimmel, has even offered Griffin a spot on his show whenever she feels like talking. But what’s this about her being one of the funniest people in the world?
Jimmy Kimmel is delusional. https://t.co/danpZrq9ue

When Kimmel says someone's funny and is gonna be big, you can be sure that they aren't funny and won't be big, just like him. https://t.co/DoI25ymQTL

She didn't hurt anyone, she just did a bunch of stupid crap.
She is NOT one of the funniest people in the world.
She will NOT be bigger than ever. https://t.co/mbbF14r7Vx

Here's the truth: If she had done EXACTLY the same thing with Obama's head as she did with Trump's head, she would be truly unwelcome in H'wood and Hollywood Reporter wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole. https://t.co/mbbF14r7Vx

Where’s the Hollywood Reporter piece on the rodeo clown who was destroyed for wearing an Obama mask? Is he in exile in his mansion too?
There are scores of “comics in exile”… because they’re not funny. Kathy Griffin is no different. Her Trump stunt was a sad attempt to change that. https://t.co/PwoFukHvBo

She blames sexism? https://t.co/rYxxdY3Tj3

“When you’re a woman,” Griffin says, “you get one fuckup, and it’s over. When you’re a guy, you get chance after chance after chance.”

Her appeal to sexism here is pretty lame. She did an edgy stunt and misjudged how poorly it would be received. That's it. https://t.co/MRZuwUzdWx
