Regardless of how hard Democrats tried to spin it as the #TrumpShutdown, the writing was right there in the headlines: it was Sen. Chuck Schumer and the Democrats who blocked passage of a continuing resolution that would have kept the government open.
That government shutdown lasted barely a weekend, and in the end, Democrats passed a continuing resolution in exchange for Mitch McConnell’s assurance that he’d bring up DACA for a vote.
Vox founder Ezra Klein tried to put a happy face on things for Democrats by describing Monday’s compromise as “a good deal.”
So they got six years of CHIP funding … which is what they could have had Friday without shutting down the government.
