Sure, it’s an opinion piece that doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of CNN, but shouldn’t it at least reflect reality?
On Saturday, CNN published on its site a post entitled, “Tuesday will show if racist fear-mongering can win elections.” Written by Karthick Ramakrishnan, professor of public policy at the University of California, Riverside, the piece took a look at elections in Virginia and New Jersey — but not a very close look.
The piece caught the eye of Hot Air’s John Sexton:
So CNN published an opinion piece today about the VA election with this headline: pic.twitter.com/l5DiSk0oOi

Obviously, the piece had to be about that Latino Victory Fund ad showing a pickup truck with a Gillespie campaign sticker and Confederate flag trying to run down terrified children? Right?
I assume they were talking about that Northam ad?
— Erik Soderstrom (@soderstrom) November 4, 2017
Nope.
I presume they are speaking of Northam's race-mongering ads portraying Gillespie supporters with torches and chasing down Hispanics?
— Linda (@Atlantiso1) November 4, 2017
Nope.
You mean like depicting white pickup truck drivers as a murderous threat to brown children? Well, yeah. I guess it will.

Must be talking about that fake leftist ad claiming conservatives run over poor minority children…
— Jprak ❌ ?? ?? ?? ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (@sentient72) November 4, 2017
Nope. Somehow that wasn’t mentioned.
Not mentioned in this piece on racial fear-mongering: This ad supporting the Dem candidate in VA…https://t.co/JLb2fpxULh

Does an ad in which a white person tries to run down minority children in the street not count as racial fear-mongering? What is it then?
— John Sexton (@verumserum) November 4, 2017
Well, the most racial fear-mongering ad of the year didn’t make the piece, so it must not count as racial fear-mongering, seeing as it backed the Democrat.
I read that as if an ad showing a white man running down kids can win elections.

Nice impartiality

Seems neutral.

Like we said, it’s an opinion piece, but maybe a little bit of reality could have helped the writer’s cause.
CNN: Every single Gillespie supporter is a racist fear-monger
*Gillespie wins*
CNN: We thought calling you racist was gonna work this time!— Vindicated Russian Bot (@Username1213141) November 4, 2017
DNC & CNN: "It's gonna work THIS time!!"
— Nate Shin (@En_SabahNur) November 4, 2017
Did we mention that the super progressive group Democracy for America announced it would no longer support Northam’s campaign because it was disastrous and racist?
