Whatever the mainstream media’s definition of “alt-right” is, we probably disagree with it, but there’s little question that James Allsup is a white nationalist. The YouTube personality and blogger was a prominent figure in the “Unite the Right” protest in Charlottesville and was busy on Twitter Monday trying to define who is a “real American.”
Imagine having 6 generations of American pioneer and explorer ancestors, and being told an imported Somali = just as American as you are!

This is the problem with "civic nationalism." There's more to being an American than magic soil. One must be part of the American nation!

We are the real Americans. The descendants of the explorers and settlers and homesteaders that tamed and civilized the American continent.
— James☝️Allsup (@realJamesAllsup) October 23, 2017
Fortunately for us, those real Americans had the foresight to welcome others to become real Americans as well by offering a path to citizenship to those who wanted to immigrate legally.
My ancestors crossed the Rockies in the 1800s in covered wagons. Yours flew Southwest to DFW in 1998. Who's more "American"?

I can tell you who's a bigger piece of shit. https://t.co/pvsaW9Mdea

My ancestor Isaac Howe came to settle these shores in 1635.
That's 10 generations.
I'm more American than you.
Get out. https://t.co/sbbvol1CVQ

I have 9 generations of American ancestors, does that mean you are less American than I am? https://t.co/nh2qWWXtuc

As a seventh-generation American, I just want to say GTFO, newbie.
The Somali can stay. He/she is a better American & human being than you. https://t.co/3DNs5BFYGS

ah, the old "I earned this because someone else did something hard and 150 years later I was born" argument https://t.co/Nc3zUrWA9H

You died of dysentery playing Oregon Trail and and work in an uncovered cubicle. You are not your ancestors. You didn't do what they did. https://t.co/WsBk17ibiv

A model for American failure: he grew up here and screwed up so bad that immigrants "get" US history, economy, & opportunity better than him https://t.co/r4opPzNanH

Imagine being 6th generation American and having such a weak understanding of what it means to be an American.#feeble https://t.co/53ZqyWqCiT

My ancestors arrived in the 1640s. I only get one vote, just like my friend who came from Argentina and became a Naturalized Citizen. https://t.co/aIIHRuPoe0

Since he came to American *looking* for freedom, and you've grown up taking it for granted – I'd say he is.
American is not a race. https://t.co/MEPm01cvuc

Imagine making an idiotic statement like this and thinking you're more American than someone who sacrificed to come here. https://t.co/KMY6qsG1Tp
— Jason L Bauman (@EclecticHonesty) October 23, 2017
You know what's American? Judging people as individuals. Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali, is 1000x more American than you. https://t.co/e4fnC6i3xK
— Mike (@AmalikSmuggie) October 23, 2017
Hint: Maybe the people that chose to give up their former countries to start new, better lives as Americans are pretty American. https://t.co/6dazoVpfJ1

Imagine having 7 generations of American pioneer and explorer ancestors, who helped settle California, Oregon, and Washington, and having each and every one of them realize that Allsup's definition of "American" is idiotic. https://t.co/PWjaK1yJTr
