Many who should know better have declared Donald Trump’s presidency a coup already, but for those not yet convinced, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Connie Pillich is offering hope by refusing to deploy the state’s National Guard as a distraction from Trump’s scandals.
Dem OH Guv candidate Pillich: If Trump launches "unjust" war to distract public, she'd declare emergency to keep OH Guard being activated.

The Columbus Dispatch reported Thursday that Pillich, a Democrat and former state representative, not only joined the call for a special prosecutor to investigate the president’s ties with Russia. Were she elected governor, Pillich said would not allow lives to be endangered in an unjust war declared to distract the American public from Trump’s many controversies.
This is a new thing: A Democratic #OHGov candidate says she wouldn't activate the state's national guard for Trump. https://t.co/1RD7hnaqju pic.twitter.com/zpsoc5OaKB

Pillich repeated her pledge in a series of tweets Thursday afternoon.

It is not implausible that President Trump will divert attention from an investigation or scandal by beginning armed hostilities abroad.

I'm gravely concerned that POTUS has proven he will do whatever it takes to distract attention and cover up one scandal with another.
— Connie Pillich (@ConniePillich) May 11, 2017
Should Trump unilaterally start an unjust war as cover-up, I as governor will stop the Ohio National Guard troops from being deployed.
— Connie Pillich (@ConniePillich) May 11, 2017
If such action were to occur, I would declare a state of emergency to refuse the OH National Guard from being used as political pawns.

Strong statement. @ConniePillich probably would need to get elected to follow through, but still…. https://t.co/SaEuzMuaOl

Is this legal? Dem governor hopeful Connie Pillich says she might not activitate Ohio Guard for Donald Trump https://t.co/321VLKylcE

Would it be legal? The Dispatch reports that Pillich acknowledged the move would likely end up in court, but it’s “a battle … she is willing to have.”
