Guns down, people.

WSVN in Miami is reporting that several people were shot and grazed by bullets at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in Northwest Miami-Dade.

WSVN reports that its news crew was on the scene as the shots rang out and “saw displaced children crying after losing their parents when a stampede of attendees ran away from the scene in search of safety. Many police officers were seen carrying small children away from the scene.”

This is heartbreaking; check out the two most recent tweets from the Miami Beach Police Department, posted within a half-hour of each other, to see just how quickly things turned ugly at what was supposed to be a day of peace.

Update:

The shooting in Miami was followed soon after by another incident, this one fatal, involving a man reportedly firing into a crowd celebrating the holiday in Hallandale Beach, Fla. The suspect is in custody and cooperating, according to police.

Police have not yet released a motive in either incident.

It’s not been a good holiday in South Florida:
